Stock pad thickness

I searched, couldn't find it... possibly just a dumb morning.

Does anyone know how thick the stock pads are (just friction material, not backing plate)?

I don't have any new pads around so I can't measure.

I recall someone mentioning stock pads have 0.4inch/10mm thickness. Can't find the source but it sounds right to me. Most BBKs with thick pads have either 15mm or 20mm thick pads.

I thought it was 12mm, when I went in for service the tech was surprised that I was only down 2mm (measured at 10mm) after nearly 8 months of ownership.

Found source on Essex' website under their BBK sale area. Not sure about the rules for linking a shop site so I'll just post the image:

Going to update this because I may have caused some confusion with my own confusion. Pad material thickness on the stock pads is 0.4 inches/10mm not counting the backing plate but most BBK pad shapes count the backing plate on the sizing. Pads listed as 0.8inch/20mm seem to have around 0.6inch of pad material thickness. Since the pads in these shapes can usually be obtained at the same cost or cheaper than stock pads, there is still a cost savings associated but we aren't talking twice as thick like I noted above.

thicker =/= larger or more.

While Sprint pads are 20mm thick including the backing plate, the actual volume of pad is about identical to stock.

The benefit (and perhaps double edged sword) of the kit is in weight reduction and a rotor that dissipates heat faster.

I made this post like 7 years ago.. the image and source is long gone but it's pretty safe to say at least the data is correct.

Not disagreeing but that shocks me. Makes me wonder from a total running costs standpoint which BBK would probably be cheaper to run but I think that should be it's own thread which I'll open shortly here.
