In frustration today, I redlined the car in 1st and second (snow drifting). VVT came back on. What in the hell

welcome, lol
That s basically what I did too, flooring angrily and lot of engine braking what I suggest you is, take advantage of when it activates and take a longish drive Hopefully you got Techstream in the meanwhile, connect it while idling with engine on and check vvt initial values |

Just to update.. I changed the oil and tried to swap ocv and cam sensor from bank2 to bank1 intake side
a little of oscillation was still there with cold oil So it s pretty obvious it's the cam gear that has problems My mechanic said to me he will change it for free as soon as I provide the new cam gear, but for now we won't, I reflashed modifying the "VVT inlet OCV Duty correction#1 / #2" tables reducing them of about 30% of the values and for now the vvt enables instantly and i get no oscillation |

I tried the similar mod to Intake Duty Correction A/B/C/D tables - I use RomRaider - but not better than before. I guess my case is more complecated. Hard time on every flashing......

Me personally, it just fixed by itself with time
I still have a weird thing, if I flash a new tune, or reset dtc or disconnect battery, the vvt takes a lot of time to enable, and the second restart it takes even more time... like 30km or more When it enables, both cams in bank#1 oscillate a bit around target then from the third engine start... it activates immediately and oscillate no more what s your problem? |

VVT not working after a reflash.
Both intake and exhaust oscilate around -2° and +2° but no further. Of course car is very slow. Context: IAG forged short block + OEM heads . Ptuning turbo Car has been running ok since rebuilt (3000 miles) first time this happens. Enviado desde mi HD1900 mediante Tapatalk |

When I rebuilt my engine, I installed the intake cams not knowing that there was a backing plate/spring missing. My intake VVT couldn't hit target and couldn't get close to max timing angles. Are your exhaust cams also not hitting target angles?
All this to say, mine was caused by not enough oil pressure going through the cams to achieve the timing angle asked by the ECU. Here is a comparison pic of the old vs new intake cam gear. New one on the left. Notice the plate just above the center of the cam gear. |

I'm having the same issue too, with the vvt not enabling. I've got ecutek stage 2 tune on N/A stock engine, and it happens when switching tune files around. I know my old tune file works fine and vvt did enable before switching to another file but switching back to old file the vvt is stuck at 0. I thought about swapping the ovc and vvt sensors around or even replacing them altogether but it seems like some hard driving, engine braking or blipping hard will enable the vvt and not really the ovc or vvt sensor problem?
I might swap around bank 1 to bank 2 ovc and vvt sensors tomorrow before my 1st cold start to experiment since it's only takes a few minutes and some spirited driving...

For what it's worth, my car threw a chain not long after this started coming and going. I don't know how or why, but I'm guessing it started at the cam sprocket

Well I got some good news... finally the VVT is working... after 30 mins of driving, engine braking from 5th, revving up to red line, letting it idle, basically trying everything to enable VVT and it worked...
My previous experience of enabling VVT, it took over 4 hrs of driving then same thing trying to enable it. Last week I couldn't enable it for 3 days, with a fresh upload of old tune file. BTW, my engine is stock and never opened up the engine for any recon or rebuilds. Also no engine flashing when VVT not on. Basically what I did was swap around the intake VVT sensors and ovc and also cleaned them both up, there was some gunk on the sensors which maybe why it's not enabling. Now all good and happy
