I believe the fee is only for GPS database updates (which are camera and speed trap locations). You get the first 90 days of updates free.

I think the GPS will work without that subscription. Not sure I paid like $40 for 3 years.

But if that worries you, then I wouldn't worry about paying the fee because since the cameras went down here in AZ we only get updates less than once a month, haha.

It's great if your area has a heavy use of cameras (speed or redlight).

Are there any owners or people knowing other people owning "ALG9" Antilaser G9 product?

Would you recommend this product as a good purchase?

I've never bought a radar detector before, but aren't the V1 and 9500 a few years old? I don't expect radar detectors to turnover like phones or TVs, but I thought that there would be more "modern" looking ones. An LCD screen with topographic maps would be nice but it seems a little far fetched.

I don't think the technology currently exists to triangulate the exact location of the source of a radar, especially not with 2 antennas spaced only about 3 inches apart.

The thing is radar detection is just really basic, and apparently expensive enough to begin with. Too add on anything else would increase the cost and I'm not sure you could really enhance the capability much.

I really liked the look of that valentines on the bimmer. I mean I'd just turn it on when I'm being naughty But when I have company in the car I tend to slow down a bit so the detector will be no use then

Has anyone tried the Escort Passport 9500ci? I heard it is best of the best but it's around $1400 on Amazon. Custom installation so the radar detector is not visible with more goodies.

I have it. Great detector. Included laser jammers are known to be capable... but nowhere near the best.

As a decades long detector user (others plus multiple V1s) here's my 2c worth...

With detectors, some things matter and others really are just static.

Ultimate trust is paramount, if it EVER shows a weakness, the trust is lost.
Sensititvity matters, with really excellent signal sensitivity, you can be safe, never sorry.
Direction matters, otherwise you're left staring into the fog and wondering location. It's a comfort knowing factor. Makes positioning sources possible.
Number of radars in use and strongest radar source/type matters, esp in urban environs.

Falses really are immaterial. It's easy to adjust for what alarms notifiy you, like X band alarms. Beyond that, in actual use, it's a detector's sounds that should guide more while driving, w/watching when focusing on potentials when something is up. Excellent toning for threats keeps you aware without having to pay attention, it's subconscious after a while. Staring at the detector shouldn't be happening much while you're driving as it fairly distracting.

Anything is better than nothing, but the best defense is one you trust.
