Very aggressive engine braking all of a sudden

Yesterday, out of nowhere i noticed that my car has way more aggressive engine braking. Its very noticeable that as soon as you lift the throttle it slows down alot, before you could pretty much coast in gear with no gas and it would only decrease a tiny bit.

Even downhill, in gear with no gas it slows down unless the hill is very steep. Something feels wrong.

I thought first that the brakes might be dragging on? I drove the car for 2 hours on the highway, stopped and put my hand around the wheels and there were no heat at all from any corner, so i dont think the brakes are dragging. The other part i would think would be an issue is the tune? But that has been the same for over a year so i dont see how that could be the issue.

Next time im out i'll try and let it coast downhill not in gear, and i should be able to tell if its any brakes on. But i dont think this is the issue as mentioned above.

The new engine braking behavior you're describing sounds more correct than the older description.

My total guess is that your throttle plate wasn't closing all the way before but now it is. My engine braking is strong enough that if I don't use it, I won't be able to slow down enough to make corners at the track even with upgraded pads. The only modification that might add power to my engine is a K&N filter.

Are you able to collect any data through an OBD-II dongle or something?

Addendum: Reading the reply above made me realize that I assumed your car is manual.
