I meant to ask, what model was that?

There are some old, professionally restored semi-autos that pop up on gunbroker once in a while that I find really appealing. Especially those with original scopes. Drinking straws. I’m not drawn to originality as much as I am a clean aesthetic, and that original price premium is usually a bit high for me anyway. A clean Winchester model 63 has been on my bucket list forever.

Winchester model 12:

This one was made in 1939. All the metal is a deep, glossy grey/green color and I suspect it may have been refinished at some point long ago. There are one or two very light pits on the receiver that don’t show any loss of color. I thought it was really well done, if so. When it came into the store, it had a several-decades-old buttpad, held in place with too many screws and hot glue, and someone had trimmed it with a cleaver I think, and mangled the stock at the same time. My boss made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I refinished the stocks, and have been shooting trap with it for the last ten years, retiring it only recently. My shooting partner has been using his grandfather’s 1961 Winchester model 12 for the same length of time. I’m not a great shot, but I’ve seen him go 25/25 with either gun, so at least I know it’s just me.

LOP was plenty long enough for me, so it’s just fitted with a period reproduction black plastic buttplate from Numrich.

Terrible picture but I picked up a Ruger Precision Rimfire in .22LR . Shot it for the first time and I am totally in love with it. Also have completely wrong optic on it but I have been enjoying it in this configuration.

Heading to the worlds largest Gun Show Wanenmaher's in Tulsa this weekend...Shopping list...

-Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 Swede M96 Long or Carbine.
-Parts and gunsmith to complete a sport'erized rifle based on a old Greek Mannlicher Schoenauer action my father has had on a bench since I was a kid. Also looking for wisdom on how to change the Schonauer rotary magazine to a caliber other than 6.5x54MS (even if Ernest Hemingway loved it I'm no reloader).

Can was finally released from jail (eat $h!t ATF) Only took like 13 months

Plus side is that it's just in time for a 3 day training event we're doing with a couple CAG guys in a couple weeks.

Still 10/10 my favorite carbine I've owned/built/shot. Everything feels super natural when static or dynamic for my build, facial structure, and as a left handed shooter.

Shame that ammo is still priced relatively high, but at least it's pretty easy to find now.

I've got a sparrow SS and I've been super tempted to finally get a 308 can but SilencerShop keeps saying 7 days for eform4 approval and the comments below every one of their posts is a disgruntled mass of people saying NOPE. I waited 10 months for a .22 can. I guess I should start a form sooner rather than later.

All that to say... yours looks good and I'm jelly lol

Definitely not 7 days, but I think 60-90 is more realistic; which is still way better than the current 8-12mo average

I get it and reload too. With prices where they are now you watch where that brass goes more than watch the target. And 10mm really chucks it. Pricing was on par with 45 ammo when I started this hobby. But slinging a range of 135-220grain pills out of a single cartridge was pretty appealing.

I'd love a silenced 22. Haven't dug into the full 50 pages yet. Any farm area ground squirrel shooting mentioned typical of the PNW areas east of the Cascades. I've shot thousands of them before. Talk about a fun day of a lot of shooting.

I've done this in Burns and Klamath Falls areas of Oregon. Usually on organic farm plots. Typically a pay to play nowadays, but the gunshops do steer you where you want to go with little hassle. It beats driving around all day knocking on doors when you don't know where to look. Haven't done it enough to have seasonal contacts for repeat business, though I did try. Even the spendy outfits are booked for a year or more nowadays.

Was successful finding the Swedish Mauser in Tulsa…

Carl Gustafs M96 1918...armory updated to M38 Barrel trimmed to 24” an new rear sight for spitzer bullets…not sure who did the mock sporter stock (removed top furniture, trimmed fore end, rounded for end and refinished?) it still has the brass barrel ID medallion on other side…haggling on price I got 150 empty brass to reload...forty were once shot Norma…basically a fair price for rifle and brass for free…picked up Eighty 6.5x55SE Sellier & Bellot 140g soft point $80.

My Pop got a 1903 Mannlicher Schoenaur double set trigger with the classic full stock…I hope he finds dies an brass for the 6.5x54MS it’s chambered in cause they haven’t made brass or ready to fire rounds for years…which may be easy for him with a lifetime of gun trading buddies. It was used but not abused condition an was hit up constantly the rest of the show while walking around with it on his shoulder. Action was like butter.

Well I finally got my ass in gear and sent off my firearms licence application... now the waiting game!

I can window shop rifles in the meantime. I'm interested in a .308 for hunting deer and potentially bigger game in the future, and a .22 for some cheaper plinking.

Any recommendations, or ones to avoid altogether? Keep in mind I'm up in Canada so we don't get as much cool stuff.

Back before things went crazy...I picked up a cheap Remington 581 bolt action 22LR for my son...he drives tacks with it.

Can't speak about the 308...Lots of options out there...a nice scope and mount plus install will cost almost as much as a new entry level gun...
