@SugarBrz

It's a small world indeed

Do you know the cause why your engine blew?

I've seen their HJS cat modification, it's a nice upgrade

My car still has the Gruppe-S UEL header (GP also has the same header for sale, under their own "brand"). I was planning on replacing it with an HKS EL manifold, but speaking to Patrick, he said there wouldn't be any significant difference (power or reliability wise) so I'm sticking with it, for the time being

@ Boccaccio

I have described it in my thread but it was caused by cat failure in my brandnew JDL catted UEL Header. Also it happened only one day later to a friend of mine, we bought the headers together.

I´m driving right now a OEM Header with an 100cell HJS Cat but I was considering to buy also the HKS EL Header or maybe an ACE 350 if I find a cheap one.

maybe not "very significant", but a EL header gives better performance at higher rpm already with a NA engine.
with the supercharger even better...

You're right, Tomm. I should have said "very significant" I try to justify not spending additional €€€ on a new header :P

I'll probably swap over to an EL configuration eventually, once I get fed up with the UEL soundtrack.

@SugarBrz. Bummer...very unfortunate GP has really seen a fair share of broken FA20 engines :/

We've got almost the same engine build specification (GP360)

NEED ADVICE!!!

I used my HKS SC V2 for 10K km before one day suddenly it stopped blowing/boosting. i opened it up and saw the threads on the cap with the oil channel, sheared off. i had one of my friend fabricate the cap on a cnc using high carbon steel for strength. the supercharger worked fine for more then 1000km till one day i hit a huge pothole and the charger stopped boosting (smae issue), but this time when i opened it up again, there was a big crank through the thread on the gear housing side, where the cap used to thread on. see photo below. it wont be possible to make this part.

Now i am seriously considering getting the new GT2 Supercharger, which HKS claims to be better performing and more reliable than the GTS supercharger, and i can just replace the charger and use all the old piping and everything.

OR

Should i remove everything, raise my budget (will take time) and go for a turbo setup?

the charger itself costs almost half the price of the Turbo kit

you choose, turbo is more powerful everywhere and more fun for sure

i regret everyday that I took the hks sc instead of the hks turbo honestly

Guys, i have switched over to greddy T518z turbo from my HKS V2 supercharger. I got used T518z turbo and the exhaust manifold, and i have used my HKS V2 intercooler and some of the piping to make a Custom Kit. Its working great.

After drive the car on supercharger from almost 3 years, it feels kinda weird now thats its turbo. The lag is very notice able but when the boost comes on, its a fun experience.

Hello !
I'm scared to see there is no heat shield around your turbo !
About the MAF position on HKS inlet pipe, do you make it yourself ?

i guess the long routing contributes to the lag, and yes he welded the maf housing to the pipe, i like these experiments

Yes i welded a flange on the hks charge pipe and put in the maf sensor to see if it works, well it works perfectly, less work for me to make a new intel pipe.

I am waiting for my turbo blanket to come in so i can put it around the hotside.

Surprisingly the boost comes on at 2500rpm and its at full boost (7psi) at 3500rpm.

Its a very sketchy project, but its working surprisingly well. Now i am getting all the supporting mods, and hoping to go for a dyno run soon, really curious about the outcome.

What type of boost or power were you making on the HKS SC kit? How would you compare the two? What is the boost threshold for your setup?

As my car is getting older, I am considering my future plans. If I ever bought a gen2 someday and want to boost it, I've asked myself if I would do a SC or turbo. I have more experience with turbocharged vehicles, so I was surprised that I enjoy my supercharger thus far, but I was curious if you find the turbo better or just different than your SC.

do yourself a favour and go turbo
supercharger has too much parasitic drag, too few boost under 5k,and almost too much at redline

turbo is so much funnier and customizable

For the longest time I have been considering getting a boost controller, so I can do boost by gear and limit top end boost to not over-boost the motor. The main thing that was holding me back was having too much boost down low on a stock engine. I get that this wouldn't change the inefficiency nature of supercharging, and in fact, I would be over-spinning the supercharger on the top end, but the benefits would be hitting usable boost sooner.
