2016 BRZ Limited VS 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
So, my BRZ is in the shop due to a doe /female deer coming up and literally headbutting the passenger fender. I think it crawled back to the bushes and died.
I'm pushing a brand spanking new 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited as a rental until the BRZ is done. I have to say...I never really thought I would ever say this; I am going to miss the hell out of this truck when it's gone. The one I'm driving is the top of the line limited. With automatic/start/stop, power everything, leather everything, heated/vented seats + steering wheel heated, intuitive interface, massive sunroof, and a nice v-6 that doesn't suck too bad on gas. I can't really say I am missing the BRZ, maybe the newness has worn off. Even though the suv is way too big for me being short as hell at 5'7". I've always hated jeeps and been a Japanese sport compact kind of guy. The BRZ always commands attention of the driver and onlookers I think. But, at being a everyday automobile..this jeep kicks the hell out of the BRZ at everyday things. If I could afford both I would definitely have both. Looks like I need to get the BRZ on a Autox and learn what it was really made for.

If you lean more toward sporty driving, the SUV will let you down. They can be quick in a straight line, but braking, cornering and the confidence of driving a more maneuverable car will all be lost, IMO.

Not to mention the fully decked out cherokee is $20kmore than a BRZ, that money buys a lot of the nicer things

To me, a sportscar and a Truck/SUV make perfect complimentary vehicles - they are different enough in role and capacities to basically cover most all needs. I bought a 2013 Nissan Frontier recently....2WD King Cab SV with the V6 and 6 speed manual, and haven't been driving my FR-S much since. The truck is quicker than a twin in acceleration and is not too bad in the corners, traction control and stability control is much better than on the FR-S. Plus it wiĺl be very usefull to tow the FR-S to track in the future as I turn it more into a track orientated vehicle.

1950's - People wanted big car with V8 power so they could haul "family stuff."
1960's - See above, but now someone put a dump truck engine into a mid-size coupe. Family sedans and coupes will now blow the doors off of most "sports cars" in a drag race. 1970s - Fuel embargo, insurance premiums, and emissions regs say "nope!" People resign themselves to driving 160 horsepower 3500 lb. coupes that do a quarter mile in a day. 1980s - People watch Miami Vice, want Ferrari, can afford 200 horsepower Corvette. 1990s - Fuel is cheap, emissions controls aren't as restrictive, but the cars are mostly FWD and boring. Trucks and SUVs offer size, RWD, and V8 sound and power. 'Murica. 2017 - You can get a big 4 door SUV that blows the doors off of most "sports cars." We've come full circle since the 1960s. We're in the second golden age of big cars with big horsepower. Enjoy while it lasts. |

I'm just happy I can take advantage of the cheap sports car market.
It's easy to buy something expensive that fits your needs. Buying something inexpensive and then adapting to it is more challenging. |

My wife and I were seriously considering a 2017 JGC as our family car now that we've got a baby on the way. Good looking SUVs and you get a lot for the money with the way dealers discount them. The only thing that put us off was the reliability horror stories. Seemed like owners almost excused issues with the "Oh it's a Jeep, it does that" mentality. Probably not a problem as a secondary car, but we didn't want to take that chance for a primary family hauler.
