Will the new Subaru WRX kill resale value of the 3rd gen WRX's?

Will the new WRX planning to be released next year kill resale value of the WRX 3rd gen?

Really?! Over in Aus, the STI depreciates like crazy. My neighbour roughly 4 years ago bought his STI sedan for 71k, he traded it in a month ago for 39k to buy another house, when noone would take his STI for asking 44k. 55% value after 4 years, is pretty bad i reckon

I expect our cars to hold up value much better than the STI

any new model will kill the resale of the previous model unless the new model is inferior to the previous model or the entire line gets shut down in which case all will go up.

having said that a car is a luxury and should never be thought of as an investment

if you just want to flip cars to stay fresh then just lease and forgeabouit

Yeah thats true. I was just thinking because my friend just recently bought a 2013 WRX and i told him he should of wait till the new WRX, because when he wants to buy the new one and sell his current one, he will lose a lot more than just waiting for the new WRX.

And i dont believe in financing. Its a death trap

no. those cars hold value, no matter what. in fact, value can increase because it's sought after. the 06 and up cars are still worth good cash.

the only cars that depreciate are you run of the mill cars...malibu's, sonata's, camry's. etc...those are built in the millions.

Huh?

All cars depreciate other than extremely rare high end unicorn exotics. An STI will depreciate at about the same rate as a regular impreza. 08 STI values plummeted in 2009.

It varies from model to model, but resale value really has to do with the reliability and availability of the car. I think that is a competitive equation to put up against resale depending on the power/ performance of a car as well.

This, as long as it also drops the value of the 2nd gens. I need one for my FF 818 project.

yes all cars depreciate. the OP asked if it will depreciate more.
i bet value barely changes on the cars, just because there is a new model.

You won't even need a DOHC turbo engine to make thing fly.
