Remote Start on Manual Transmission

Has anyone installed a remote starter yet? Apparently the companies don't have the info out there yet for the 2022. I am hoping it is the same as the 2020, but you never know.

My guy says it won't be a problem once the companies update their info. He suggests Fortem Technologies. It makes sure the car is in neutral and not in gear.

How does it push the clutch in for you?

It probably shorts the Clutch switch out to start.

That is correct. Same as on any manual car.

All of them require you to leave the car on, out of gear and ebrake on. Get out if car and lock it. Then the engine turns off and allows you to 3 press the lock button when u want to start it. If someone unlocks it in between then it won't remote start. That keeps you from launching it through garage.

Depends on force of habit, and if there is a neutral indicator wire to connect to, and if the tech connects it.

I knew a guy that while still at MECA, a classmate of his launched his personal car through the door and off the loading dock while following the teachers instructions on manual trans installation technique

This ^^^
It's doable but you better make sure it only fires under the right conditions. Twins have a neutral switch. Big plus.

Don't all cars have a neutral switch now.

People have been safely remote starting manuals for decades. Not sure why this became controversial.

It shouldn't be controversial. Some guys just think that every single tech out there is totally incompetent and can't get a single thing right. The installation of these devices is very simple.

That's what I thought. I am just looking for someone that has done one on the new generation to make sure the instructions are the same as first gen.

In one of the early threads, someone posted a youtube video of a Japanese company that installed their remote start in the car and it was working fine with the correct behavior. The car only starts if it's in neutral with the ebrake up.

I don't have the video, but it definitely exists. Just wait for your favorite aftermarket remote start maker to make one for this car.

I have one installed on my 13’ manual BRZ, it works as described above. Basically leave it running in neutral with parking brake on, get out close the door and hit « shut down », and it will activate either righ away or after a 3min timer (nice to cool down the turbo) It was a more complex install so they had their most experienced tech do it, but otherwise it works, although there are a few quirks, like I found out that if I open the trunk to grab my stuff after pressing the « shutdown button » the car never shuts off after the timer expires and just keeps running. I also have a cellular antenna to start it from my cell as well. One downside if you live in a cold area in winter is that it can puts an additional drain on your battery if you drive the car too often.

Cheers
