Aftermarket Seats

What aftermarket bucket seats do you all recommend? Kind of hard to tell what is good online.

please elaborate.

Track seat or normal seat?

I love the OEM seats, most comfortable seats I ever had.

If track, you really need to go to a shop , if possible, and try them out.

Discovery Parts at Atlanta Motorsports Park has may seats in stock, go and see which ones feel good to you. I know many folks are happy with the OMP HTE-R.

my grandfather had a strong preference for a 5-gallon plastic bucket until folding chair technology improved to the point of reducing final per-chair cost.

Seats are really something you need to try in person to see what works for your body. Through all the years I've found that what works best for me streetwise is Recaro seats. The stock FR-S seats were not the best on any extended drive, leaving my back and butt sore and not really holding me in place that well - you still sit more 'on' them than 'in' them compared to any good aftermarket seat. The Recaro Sportster CS I had in my FR-S was a HUGE upgrade in comfort along with sitting 'in' the seat and really tying you into the chassis nearly like a solidly mounted full blown race seat. Stock seat really lacks in chassis information/directness you feel from a really good solid aftermarket seat.

If it's a daily driver that doesn't see much track use you will want an adjustable back seat that uses stock seatbelts, like the Recaro Sportster or Speed series, or the Bride Stradia II or Gias II (I really wanted the Bride Gias II seats but they are just a tad too narrow and slightly short for me). So shorter/skinnier = BRIDE, taller/more 'American' = Recaro. If really into track, you can still use them with added in 4 point rollbar and racing harness - or it would be less expensive and little more ideal to go with a full blown fixed back racing seat with the rollbar and harness.

Fixed back seats are lighter and can be more form fitting, but you really need additional rollover protection (4 point rollbar minimum) since they are fixed-back which will keep you in upright position (until your neck and the seatback breaks from a large enough impact/stress) if the top gets crushed in. Bride, Cobra, Momo, OMP, Racetech, Recaro, Sparco all make excellent fixed-back racing seats I wouldn't mind having.

Just an FYI, the Recaro Sportster CS I had in my FR-S is available for about half the price of new, buyer of my FR-S wanted the stock drivers seat so I kept it. Was planning to use it in the MKIb MR2 I recently got but have decided to get a racing bucket which will be easier to mount (will have to completely custom fab a bottom mounting bracket for it while there are already side mounting brackets available for it.)

Do any of the aftermarket seats allow height adjustment?
The stock seats are comfy enough, but I kind of wish they were an inch or two lower to the floor. I'm not super tall, but I still feel like I'm up high looking down at everything rather than looking straight through the center of the windshield

Agreed, being able to lower them a little more would be nice. I would really like thigh support extension also, since I have long legs. I’ve always been jealous of BMW’s, etc, that have it.

I don’t think the OEM seats are very comfortable. Does anyone know of any comfortable white fabric seats that fit?

Comfort is terribly subjective. Find a place that sells seats and test some out (if such places exist near you).
I've had a Sparco Milano 2, and sat in a generic Braum seat an Sparco QRT- I had been surprised by the Sparco's quality, but both the Milano 2 was less bolstered than I'd thought. The Braum seat was no good. The bolstering wasn't great and it felt like I was actually sitting on plywood. The Sparco QRT is a dream to sit in, but would be a pain in the ass to get in and out of. Your legs are also locked, so no leaning one knee up against the door or something during a 500 mile trip.

Some people probably love the Braum seats. Some people probably hate the QRT- everyone has a different ass, back, hips, seating position and have an extremely specific taste because of that.

My favorite overall seat I've sat in is a factory 3000GT VR4 seat with the power adjustable lumbar and side bolsters! Stock FRS seat is a close second. Aftermarket seats in any form are going to be a compromise

I don't think you can install new seats in these cars without the seatbelt/airbag lights on the dash being always on.

It's an easy fix, plenty of write ups on this.

I looked through a bunch of threads and I would say it is far from an easy fix. It seems some people were never able to get the lights off.
