so....what exactly is RICE?

I get it to an extent, but sometimes i don't know the difference. Myself for example. On my whiteout,i plan on doing allot of cosmetic modifications that are cheap before i get into the big things like exhaust.i rebadged to Toyota, have a flossy shift knob, am going to get the interior redone, Opti coat, get spoiler, etc. Then an intake.the hks exhaust is on my list, but it'll have to wait. I want a turbo, but it's too early for me. They are still developing kits and testing them and i don't want to void my warranty just yet since all of the cel problems.. Besides,i don't want to pay 8 grand just to make my car cry yet

So would you consider me "rice" or "smart" out something else entirely?

Everyone has their own take on what a "riced" out vehicle consists of/looks like. IMO I would not consider you "rice" at all. I am doing the same, some smaller, cheaper cosmetic mods until after winter and I have the funds for exhaust, intake, ect, ect.

For instance around where I live, a lot of guys run honda civics (mainly), all 4 being on spare tires/donuts to give their car a more "blacked out" look. to me ... that is rice status. LOL. Lambo doors tend to be looked at as "rice", anything gawdy/flashy that really has no impact to performance of the vehicle. JDM decals thrown around the car windows when the guy/girl isn't even running any of those parts and is just looking for attention. (these are just some examples that I see ALOT of around my area, lol) Again, everyone has their own opinion, especially on auto forums, don't let anyones opinion of what they THINK "rice" might be, stop you from modding your car the way you want

That could be a tough one. It's sort of like asking a group of guys "what is a sports car". If you have 20 guys in the group you will get 20 different answers.

I might be over simplifying but to me rice means: form over function. If something looks different because it is serving a definite purpose, that is one thing. If something looks different and is not accomplishing anything in doing so, to me that's rice.

I do support the theory that it's your car to do with what ever you want. Good luck

It's very very easy. Something is rice if it attaches with double sided tape. There isn't a single thing that you can install on a car with double sided tape that will make me go "I NEED THIS".
