I ask this while fully admitting I have no history of car ownership apart from the bathtub I currently drive. From my point of view, this will be a big upgrade and wouldn't mind since I don't plan on tracking or anything like that.
Not really. If you need to get somewhere, you'll be above it. If you're just cruising in that rpm range, there's still enough oomph to get up and go, just not as much as if you were to downshift.

If it really bothers you after you've been driving the car for a while, a stage 1 flash minimizes it, and a stage 2 flash with header completely eliminates it.

I don't understand how some of you guys haven't noticed the torque dip. It's always been pretty noticeable to me right after I hit 3k RPM's. A header and tune will probably be my next mod to kill it completely. As far as the chirps go, they're pretty much inevitable if you're running E10. Unless Toyobaru completely redesigned the fuel pump, which I highly doubt.

E10, a fuel mixture of 10% anhydrous ethanol and 90% gasoline sometimes called gasohol.... avoid this thing and you wont notice the torque dip and criquets.
The D4S injection accepts but was not made for this

Even though I've pointed out in this thread that I do notice the torque dip, it really is not a big deal to me. Noticeable, yes. If I was drag racing, it'd be a problem. Driving around and enjoying twisty roads with no stops, it's hardly there. I am surprised that people say they don't notice it, particularly when starting from a stop.

As for using ethanol-free gas, that's great for those of you that can do so. We don't have that option here.

That's the first I've heard that. Do you have any sources on that info?

No. Half the fun of this car is driving it well despite its "limitations". Half the people who complain about it can't go a day without bitching about something and the other half suck at driving, IM respectfully submitted O. If you are doing any sort of hooning at all, it's just not an issue. Seeing angry faces in the mirror of much "better" cars when they can't loose you in the turns is where the fun is.

ETA: My "criquets" (make them seem classy!) only ever die completely when running E85. I use a pump lube as well, and it's hit or miss with regular gas and e-free. FWIW, Shell gas is by far the worst for crickets. No idea why. I think it's cavitation in the pump, but I have no idea why some fuel does it and some does not.

That's funny because for me, Shell has kept them quiet most of the time.

Why does everyone make the HPFP noise into a negative thing? It adds character to this car.

It's really cool at meets when 10 or 15 of them are all chirping together.

'15 with 8k miles. I only got a mild case of crickets that comes and goes depending on the gas level I use. Torque dip is there but not the end of the world.

that's B.S. Just the other day coming home from work i was trying to pass a Prius and he sped up just as my tach was moving into the 'dip' zone, which forced me to downshift and edge past him at 35 mph. Without the torque dip, I could have taken him at 30.
