Who has the Blue R34 Skyline in Charlotte, NC?

Driving down Independence Blvd I spotted Godzilla in in the parking lot of Radio Shack just before the westbound ramp to 485. Looked modified.

Does anybody have any information? Instagram site or something?

I don't think I have ever seen one in person. It was incredible.

That belongs to Cosmo Motors. It is registered as a kit car and they got it after Vu from New Jersey sold it. They brought it out to Cars & Coffee last month.

Ah, cool! So it is a 'kit car' but it is an actual R34 Skyline that is a 'grey market import,' right? Doing just a little reading it sounds like to get these cars into the state without having them crushed is to separate the body from the power-train then put it back together and register it that way.

When I spoke to the Cosmo Motors rep who was handing out flyers for their shop, he either did not know or did not want to answer when I asked about how they passed inspections with the crash bar issues.


A few years ago a few companies in California tried the method you mentioned above but the US government swooped down on those cars very quickly and none (supposedly) of those are left for bypassing the law, thinking it was a loophole. R34s can be registered legally in the States as show cars but are not road-legal here from the factory. This one must have required, by bare minimum, restructuring of the sub-frame and crash bars to make it legal in the States. Vu, who owned this car before, has one or two other R34s now from what I hear.


With it being registered as a kit car, my suspicions are that it really is a "kit" car built on a different frame. Cosmo are selling the car for $120k, if that tells you anything.
