I didn't spot it but does anybody know if the new fuel pump is backwards compatible? Most of the time the crickets don't bother me but when it's really hot and humid and they are present when I start the car it really gets to me because I know it's only going to get worse.

I got my car as a CPO so I have a 7/100 warranty that would hopefully cover the replacement. Subaru did it once already and I didn't even ask them to but I haven't been taking my car to the dealer for about a year now so that relationship is pretty much gone.

I want the new fender accessory, looks much cleaner than the old one and if I found some extra cash in my world I think I'd actually swap the front bumper, headlights and tail lights.

Wait until your dealer can figure out the part number on the new fuel pump before getting them to change it again. It was planned to be a running change for MY16 so it should be backwards compatible.

Believe it or not but I don't get crickets anymore since 2nd year of ownership regardless of weather.

The 2017 Parts Catalog still shows the same fuel pump. Haven't physically seen any yet obviously, will need to wait for the first MY17 cars to arrive.

Just want to throw this out there but for people who read the full notes wouldn't it make the most sense if you are modding that the 2017 might actually make more sense than the 2016?

"To deliver greater linearity, the BRZ’s new boxer engine features a stronger cylinder
block, which is at the heart of the engine . The valve stem includes buffed and polished
intake and exhaust valves, a lower friction camshaft and lower weight rocker arm
pivots, as some examples of the extent of weight reduction made throughout. These
improvements result in the response that the driver was expecting, and a smooth
revving engine . They also result in better fuel efficiency."

Just my takeaway is blah blah blah but stronger cylinder block to me makes sense does it not? Especially for forced induction.

Perhaps, but I think the Rods are the most likely first fail point, aren't they? No mention of them, so non-built engines probably won't be any stronger.

For those that will build their engines for high-hp, a stronger block does sound like a good thing though.

Tomei Powered did a tear down analysis of the first gen FA20 to determine its potential to handle increased power. The article appeared in DSport magazine several years ago.

There were two key areas of concern, pistons and con rods. These appear to be two areas NOT addressed in this new “strengthened” engine.
This is what they reported:

“…the power handling potential of the pistons are suspect since the FA20 engine’s lack piston cooling jets or a cooling channel in the piston. While the FA20’s thinner second ring reduces friction and improves seal over a thicker ring, it may also be limited in its ability to handle the thermal stresses of additional power.”

“…connecting rods is mainly for ease and speed of mass production. Strength and balance is questionable.
