Btw anyone received their registration renewal notice? Is the recall necessary to be completed to renew? |

Subaru Ontario
I originally had my appointment setup for 3/8, when I got to the dealership I was told that they had to push me back 5 weeks due to being behind. They also said that they would make the appointment for 4/10, but the car will most likely sit for a week, however they would setup a loaner car. The service adviser was a track guy, and the tech parking lot look like an STI modded heaven. I have full bolt-ons, tune and e85. He said no big deal. We shall see how it goes. To be honest, I am terrified.

It’s all about money. When they mess up the job and need an excuse to not spend money out of pocket the friendly track guy goes all business and blames your mods.

Quick update on my experience at Buena Park Toyota. Went to pick up my car after dealer had it for a week and the first thing i noticed was loose radiator hoses. This led to coolant squirting under the hood and coolant dripping all over the header. Took it back immediately and they replaced the oem spring clamps to regular hose clamps. Besides that, car seems to be running ok. Only more time and mileage will tell now.

When you go to sell your car it would probably be worth getting OEM clamps back on the car. It just screams DIY work has been done on the car. |

Except that 99.9% of the buyers won't know the difference, or even notice if they do. Heck, unless I was looking at a "restored to factory, period correct" classic car, I'm not sure I'd notice, or care.

99.9 is way high IMO. I’d say 75% wouldn’t notice on your average car but seeing this isn’t an average car I’d put that number even lower. If I saw screw down clamps I’d be thinking the engine was out of the car long enough that someone misplaced the OEM clamps. |

OK, I'll say between 75% and 99.9% is a good guess. Also, depending on the miles I wouldn't so much think the engine had been out but that a hose had been replaced. Either way, I do see your point.

just got the car back from having the recall work completed. according to the dealer the recall is not really tied to emissions in ca. i showed them the subaru recall notice which strongly suggests the recall is tied to emissions and they said that is just generic wording from subaru for all recall notices but that clause does not pertain to this particular recall. i have emailed subaru and awaiting clarification. if i did not have to get this work done i probably would not have. for what it’s worth the car seems fine, but i only just got it back.

I replaced them with screw down clamps and it fixed the leaks , just don't over tighten them and crush the hoses. Anyway . the OEM 86/brz clamps will probably be okay for the first 10yrs before losing tension. |
