The difference is honestly so small that you shouldn't worry about it. Just accelerate normally and as long as you don't redline the thing you should be okay. Enjoy yourself thats what the car is about!

However, if you run Torque with a bluetooth adapter, you can set up a fuel gauge in your Android device that reads in gallons (or liters) instead of just F to E. I repurposed an old phone I no longer use to serve as an engine monitor with a set of auxiliary gauges and included a fuel gauge in it (bottom row, second from right): I have found it to be pretty accurate. With this, when I get into the reserve, I can watch it count down and know when I really am approaching empty. One other thing you'll notice there is that I'm running coolant and oil temperature gauges in degrees. That's particularly interesting because the car's own temperature gauge in the gauge cluster is actually fake. When you first start driving, the coolant needle on the cluster slowly rises until it reaches around 170°, then it stops at the "normal" center position. I've had it up to 210° without that needle moving away from normal. At some point when you're actually overheating, I assume that needle will take off into the red. But it has at least a 40° "normal" range where the needle just sits there without telling you you're running hotter or colder. Even though it looks like an actual analog gauge, it's really no better than an idiot light that tells you "cold," "normal" and "overheating." For a car that was designed for fun on a track, I thought that was a particularly stupid engineering choice. |

FWIW, virtually all modern cars have a wide "dead zone" on the temp gauge, and some have a similar characteristic for oil pressure gauges. So these gauges do alert you to major deviations from "normal", but don't upset uniformed owners, who would flock to the service department if they saw their gauges actually modiulating.

I've had my 2016 automatic for 2 months now, and am averaging around 32 mpg, 8.5L/100km. That is mostly highway at 120kph and around 2200 rpm.

I only get 200 before the gas light comes in...city driving only. It's rough, haha. When I bought the car at 19k miles, the average mpg was over 30, now at 23.5k miles it's at 25.8

My best highway trip was 42.8 MPG over the course of 186 miles. On average, I am usually around 32-34 MPGs since I installed my header/op/fp/catback but I did average 35 when I was stock.

I have to tell you: I'm disappointed with the gas mileage. It's a light car, with good aero, a 2 L 4 Cyl engine. It oughta be better. I've been driving a rental all week; a Hyundai Sonata. It supposedly has 22 less HP. Feels quicker than my FR-S. Highway MPG is 4 MPG better. AND you are hauling around more car. AND it runs on regular.
With a right to be disappointed...... |
