Setting default IAM to 1 on Tune

Greetings.

Just wanted to check what people's opinions are on setting the default IAM to 1.

Google alas fails my search and unfortunately I can't find anything on the forum along the lines of "set IAM to 1 on tune safe?"

My tuner says that it's fine to set the IAM on 1 and let the ECU take away timing as needed.

For context: I'm Vortech and tuned for 93.

Even though I'm tuned for 93, I was wondering if I should have my tuner do a revision to set my IAM to start at around .7 or .8 in the event of bad gas or -- like I said, allow the ECU to naturally subtract timing based on my FLKC.

My other concern is engine knocking in Winter even if I shift at around 2-3k RPMs when the engine is cold. Would it be ideal to have the IAM set at .7 to .8 in order to lessen power and thus, prevent knock from happening?

Previously, I had the OFT Stage 2 v4 tunes that set the IAM to 0.7 on startup but, that was specifically for 91 (I chose 91 for conservative route on OFT) and let the ECU do as it needed to get the IAM to 1. AFAIK however, previous OFT tunes have set the IAM by default to 1 and all has been fine however, I am boosted so it's different?

Basically, what would you rather do?
  • Set the default IAM to 1 in order to get the most performance out of it at the start.
  • Set the IAM to .7 to .8 and allow the ECU to advance timing if conditions are fine.

Trust your tuner IMO. They will tell you what's your best course of action.

IAM only acts on the timing the the Knock correction advance table. It doesnt act on the base ignjtion table.

Ususlky there is little if any timing in the knock correction advance table at lower rpm low loads. Tuner would need to place significant amounts of advance in that table for iam to have an effect at lower rpm and loads.

You would also need to rune it at iam 1 then at the end drop the iam initial to 1.

there is fuel enrichment tables that are based on coolant temp might be better way to go
