It's a heavy chunk of steel just as @zkv476 said it was. Not all cars use a DM or a viscous flywheel, actually I'd almost go so far as to say most don't.

Especially small engines like this. With a short crank and the boxer layout balancing primary harmonics it's not really necessary. A DMF is pretty obvious, they're big, heavy and look like they can be disassembled even more since there's bolts or they're welded together. Ours is a single cast plate that gets machined after.

You are both correct. My mistake. I just dug my old flywheel out of the garage attic since it's been 1.5+ years since I last looked at it. I remembered it being overly thick and confused it with another flywheel I had on a previous car. Thanks

Haha no worries, I had a very clear memory of it. I spent 8 hours on my back with the car on jack stands doing the clutch just a week ago, and man that kinda sucked :p.

I'd leave the stock front pulley on the car and go with lightened flywheel.

The flywheel makes a difference you can feel. The front pulley, while heavy, it's mass is much closer to center and has less effect.

The clash you hear is the lash in the gears in the transmission. Common on just about any platform with a lightweight flywheel.
