New OEM gearset cost

Does anyone have an idea what the guts would run me if I needed to rebuild the trans? Perhaps a part number?

This obviously isn't going to happen until I need it... and eventually I will need it depending on how well mine holds up after boost and abuse on the track with a built motor. I just want to know if it's worth the cost of the rebuild or try to find another transmission solution when the time comes. The only after market gear set I've seen is the Cusco close-ratio set, but I'd rather not spend 2300+ for a set of gears that won't exactly be streetable.

Edit: I'd like to add that if I rebuild, cryo and teflon coating will definitely be done.

I haven't done any direct research, but from those who have, the likelyhood of getting a gear set made for this trans would be just as pricey as getting another trans. If you plan on boosting the motor, especially a built one, just go ahead and wait till you can afford an R154 or R160 from the supra.

It would be pointless to redo the gears after you shred them only to have them shred again.

Someone in a different thread priced out the parts needed to replace 3rd (or maybe 4th) gear from the dealer, and it came out close to $600. That's for just one gear, so a rebuild is not very cost effective at this point.

Search the threads. There are a couple of companies selling adapters for Tremec and other trannys.

I came across topics about dog boxes and of course the FBM v160 conversion. Dog box is out of the question for obvious reasons and the FBM piece is nearly the cost of a v160/161 itself, which would make it extremely cost prohibitive. I'd love a V161 but I don't think that's going to happen.

I'm not trying to throw down numbers, 275-300tq is where I will be. I just want something that's going to hold up to track abuse and still be DD friendly.

You should be fine with those torque numbers and stock trans.

How does that make any sense?

I've had problems with the standard gearbox since 1500 miles and it looks like I will finally be catching a break with the 4th dealership and 8th attempt to get something done about it ( it better, I'm driving an hour one way for it).

I'm trying to get all the tranny gremlins fixed while the car still has warranty. I've been trying to get this done for months before I pull the trigger on FI. I just want to make sure that it's not a dead investment to throw that kind of money at the car and find out that I need to double it just to keep it on the road. If they put in a new transmission I will likely have the gears cryo'd if I can find someone to tear it down and put it all back together reasonably cheap. Actual cryo treatment isn't expensive at all.

Anyone else think this when they read "tranny gremlins" above?
