The reason red was dropped was because hardly anyone was buying them. The same reason they dropped the dark blue early on. Oftentimes if people want a bright color on the BRZ, they would go for the WRB, or one of the special editions. Red has consistently been the least popular color for the BRZ, so it makes sense that Subaru America would drop it. It's still going strong in it's home market of Japan where many more BRZs are sold period, as well as some other color choices we don't get here like the dark blue.

Nissan makes the 370Z, which is basically like buying a new 2003 model car. Simple. Elemental. A little raw. And no one buys it, instead complaining how it's 'dated', and that the infotainment system is 'old'.

Same with the BRZ/86. Buyers have lamented the loss of the small, light, tossable, inexpensive sports car, fun to drive, where handling is more important than sheer power, something in the spirit of the old 'sports' cars of the 1960's (sound familiar)? Enter the BRZ/86, with more than double the power of most of those original 60's 4 cylinder sports cars, and infinitely better handling, comfort, safety, and reliability. And what do a lot of people do? Complain that it 'doesn't have enough power' (though interestingly not many people whine that the Miata, with similar performance to the twins, isn't 'powerful' enough).

Buyers are fickle. Especially with sports/sporty cars it seems. I don't blame manufacturers for largely giving up on the segment. We have only ourselves to blame.

Very well stated
It’s almost a miracle the twins exist in the current era of automobiles. SUVS rule the world now, and electric cars are next, well electric SUVS. I mean I understand the appeal on paper for an SUV, higher off the ground, more cargo and people space. The reality is everyone drives a vehicle with more ground clearance so there is no advantage of “seeing over” anyone. Most full size trucks will block your view unless you are in a semi. And cargo and people space is usually compromised by vehicle design or a tiny cramped 3rd row.
I will continue to support Toyota and Subaru’s efforts to keep the twins alive. I think sports cars have always been a niche market, and I can see more hybrid and electric sports cars being developed. Meeting EPA regulations will dictate future cars more than anything. So I will be buying either a 2nd gen twin or possibly a current gen if I can find one with the performance pack or handling pack. I really want the Sachs suspension and Brembos. The twins are near perfect to me.

Me too. My wife's Crosstrek is Sunshine Orange. I'd love to have a BRZ in that color (I think they actually offered orange in Australia).

Don't believe there was ever an orange BRZ anyplace though. Orange was a Toyota thing while Subaru had special blues and the yellow.

I was so jadded when I wrote off mine, it was one of the best colour cars I've had.

I couldn't bring myself to get another 86 as all the current colours are boring, and we haven't seen a real LE since 2017.

Ya I was bummed when they dropped the Lava since I didn't know what I would replace it with when the time came. We were just lucky here that they did come out with a LE that had a colour I liked even better.

Love this colour even better then my Hot Lava. I think I have one of the last Hot Lava of 2016.

There are nice darker colours available like Hakone, but problem with them you have to constantly wash them to look good. A bit of dust and they lost their spark and appeal.

White of cause best to look good under layer of dust, but other bright colours like Hot Lava, Yellow or that Orange looks surprisingly good without daily washing routine.

Huh! I missed that! Never knew it existed. Do you happen to know what year(s) it was offered?

Thanks!

2017 There were 860 orange and 860 white ones in the US. They came with the stripes.

The pearl on the Hakone helps a lot with the dirt and dust. Even dirty it comes through so is much the same as the Lava as far as showing dirt goes.
Believe me I know!

The article was even saying that May will be the last month for European markets. This is wrong and it looks that current model will continue next year and will contain some additions to pass newer local regulations. There is already a new price list which is valid from July 2020. It would be bizarre to stop the production in all the other regions and keep it just for Europe.

Considering that Germany was one of the only two places to get final editions it would make no sense that they would carry on without everybody else. Can you post a copy of the info you saw? I am intrigued since it goes against every single piece of info we know and really throws doubt at all the clickbait "insider" statements.
