Thoughts on ARCO Gas

With gas prices becoming super expensive recently in SoCal, it made me think about gas and gas quality in general. Is ARCO gas really that bad? I've never really been a fan of using cheap things/parts for my car, but I just wanna hear about other people's experiences with ARCO and their 86. What effects will 'cheap' gas have on your car? I'd also like to hear about which gas station ya'll fill up at and why. This is my first car, so I don't have much experience with owning and maintaining a car.

Please, no ranting or slandering. Informative and thoughtful responses are appreciated.

I use all name brand gas, including Arco (I'm in SoCal). I would guess it's Arco 91 about 30-50% of the time. I've got 20K supercharged miles on my '17 (23K total). I've had zero issues. I don't feel, hear or smell a difference between any of the brand name stations. I do drive hard and to redline a few times on every tank.

Coincidentally, the only non-name brand gas I buy is E85. Maybe 5% of usage though.

Just my experience.

Probably the same in SoCal as up here. It all comes from the same refinery. The only difference is the additives they add when they fill the trucks, and none of them add enough of any additive to make any difference.

I use Costco gas, no issues filling it up. I do notice LESS crickets. Cost wise, I avoid ARCO b/c its cash/debit only, whereas Costco is cheaper and I get cash back on gas purchases. I fill up every other day since I travel a lot for work

When i first purchased the car i would fill at ARCO, but i got loud cricket sounds (would drive me crazy at drive-throughs)

Now i only fill at Shell of Chevron, alleviating ALL of the cricket sound.

I guess if your in a pickle, you could.
I rather pay the extra $2 or so and stick to decent gas.
I stop looking at prices since 2009. All I know it's either $38-$43 to fill up.

Is there a reason why you don't think ARCO is decent gas?

I agree with you. I use to talk to wholesalers for petroleum and she said the gas is the same as well due the rating but the additives are the only real difference. The difference between the additives is not really measurable. Same thing with this friend I use know and he work at the Acro refinery and he said you would be surprise by the gas you fill up with due the contract some other gas company would be filling with Arco but of course with their additives. I still don’t fill up with arco or costco even knowing this.

I never use Arco cuz My gf's mazda 5 felt like it was dying with arco........... but that's back in 2012..maybe they are better now.

And I'm considering costco gas too, 50 cents cheaper ......is like 6 doller cheaper a fill up. I can buy the additives in bulk & just put them in myself.

Octane ratings are everywhere given that brand. Their 91 could be 89 or 90.
My butt dnyo didn't like it when I filled with arco gas. When I filled her up again with shell or chevron my butt dyno like it more.
