Lightest trim according the Savagegeese is 3486 lbs (for base manual). According to their dash shots it looks like the gearing/final drive of the manual are the same as the 370z (which one Nissan rep said they share the same gearbox with some minor updates in synchros for 1st and 2nd).

Hagerty with Cammisa drag raced an automatic Z with a Supra (presumably the 3 liter version) and a Mustang Mach 1, and the Z lost by quite a margin. Then they drag raced the manual Z with the automatic Z and the manual was slower still (which is to be expected with modern automatics).

I haven't read/watched too many reviews, but Savagegeese have praised the updates on the new Z vs. the 370z.

Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire claims that the base model does indeed lack the LSD.

Also interesting that they went to a square tire setup in the base (245/45R18 all around, but might be different wheel width and/or offset) vs. staggered in the Performance trim (255/40R19 front and 275/35R19 rear).

If the suspension isn't different (and I'm not seeing anything to say it is) that's pretty odd.

Look back a few posts.
The "quite a margin" was 30 feet.
The video ended with them saying that if the Z had proper tires so the launch control actually worked it would have been right up there with the other two.

I agree.

I think the Supra is a better value for $50k. More premium chassis and construction. Smaller/lighter. Active diff, active suspension, probably a better auto, pretty sure there are more premium features.

The $41k is nice for a base model, so someone can modify it, as they feel, but I still think $36-38k would have been justified, as equipped. The $11k price hike is hard to swallow.

I wonder how much of their pricing is because of the supply chains and to capitalize on the price hikes, so dealers don't take all the money. They can always lower the prices later.

Active diff - is a downside actually. Nothing beats a proper mechanical LSD.

The mechanical LSD in the 360z wasn’t great. The new one isn’t mechanical. It is a Haldex unit. The active diff in the Supra is better.

So they went from viscous to haldex? Even though its stated in every publication to be "mechanical"?

Where's the info about the haldex diff? I checked out couple of sources and they say the new Z will have clutch type diff.

Nissan's viscous diffs are not great, for sure. And yeah, active might be better compared to the viscous type.

But still, nothing beats proper mechanical (as in clutch or helical) diff.

When OEMs say clutch diff, they mean an active diff with an actuated clutch pack. No manufacturer will put an aftermarket style clutch LSD in a factory road car.

Well, if the clutch pack is actuated by a solenoid and in the end the diff locks properly - who cares if it's not 100 mechanical?
And if it's not good, just throw it out, buy Cuso, Kaaz, OS Giken, etc diff and enjoy.

I have to say that this video is beginning to change my mind a bit. The rear 3/4 views are great. I love the interior, although maybe a little over the top on the color coordination.

And when they show the front 3/4 view at actual people height, its ALMOST OK. Still the grill is too tall and the bottom corners are too much plastic.

I think if they managed to design so that front grill was either the top or bottom half and then extended to the ends, I would have liked it better.

The detailed mechanical overview in this video provided great detail without the hype.

Very well done.
