Decent Price for Opti-Coat?

I recieved a quote from Visual Pro Detailing in IL for $289 with another $59 for Opti-Glass window treating. He's charging me a $100 extra premium for coming to me (He's near Carbondale and I'm in St. Louis).

$289 Opti-Coat Pro
$59 Opti-Glass Coat
$100 Travel Cost

$448 Total cost.

Good price? Anyone use Visual Pro before?

+1 to what raptor87 said. For mine, the paint correction was the most expensive part. Everything has to be perfectly prepped, prior to applying the opti-coat. You might want to check with them to see if that includes paint correction, otherwise your price will grow quite a bit.

It includes 2 hours of paint correction. My intention is to take my BRZ directly from the dealership to the garage where the work will be performed. I've instructed the dealership to not wash or otherwise clean the car and to leave the factory film in place.

If that includes 2hrs of paint correction, I'd say that's a fair price (at least it is in CA). What color is your car?

I have an Ultramarine Blue (Galaxy Blue Silica) FR-S, and had it done after owning the car a short month or so. I only had ~1,000 miles on it, but even in that short amount of time, I had major swirls needing a lot of paint correction. My paint correction took quite a bit longer than 2hrs.

Ironically enough mine will be Galaxy Blue Silica. I ordered the car in Febuary and expect delivery early June. I'm wanting to line everything up now so I can go directly from the dealership to my garage where he'll be doing the Opti Coat install. From there it goes directly to the local car audio shop (JML Audio) to have the PPF installed and my tint done.

Definitely is a fair price. I had mine done for $300 here in CA with wash, decontamination and paint correction.

This is what he was able to do over 5 hrs.

Wheels cleaned with pH neutral wheel cleaner that brakes down Iron deposits with boars hair brushes and "wheel woolies"

Tires scrubbed with tire cleaner

Tar remover agent used and left to dwell if needed



Car washed using two bucket method

Decontaminate car of iron using Iron-X
Decontaminate surface using nanoskin's auto scrub on large panels and traditional "clay" on smaller areas

Tape off trims

Single step finishing polish to refine and jewel paint. Removes minor defects

(Add'n more aggressive polish if needed prior)

Second wash to remove any oils left behind from polish

Dry using waffle weave microfiber towels

40% isopropyl alcohol & distilled water wipedown to prep for Opticoat

Opticoat one panel at a time and inspected using halogen, LED, fluorescent lighting to ensure it is leveled correctly

Water based (no silicone) tire dressing applied

Exhaust cleaned and shined

Somethings strange, Opti Pro sells for more than that......are you getting the warranty?

Which Opti glass version the consumer or Pro?

This is opti coat 2.0 without warranty. In order to get a warranty he would have had to order a new "bottle" of Pro and only apply it to my car. He said that would have been $70 extra.

He's also one of the registered installers on the opticoat site.


*Edit - Maybe prices are coming down due to market commoditization? Everyone else I talked to would cost over double.*

For what little it's worth, over in the Australian Classified forums there's a group buy going for a guy who does opticoat with the full warranty on metal + glass + dealing with any swirls in the paint for $420. Pretty fantastic job, many of us very happy with it. Unfortunately it's unlikely to help you much, but should give you an idea of the price.

On the glass side, he didn't say. He said the Opti-Coat would be permenent but that the Opti-Glass would have to be redone every 3-5 years.

The Opti-Glass is a long lasting protective coating and excellent rain repellent. It protects from scratching and water spots much like Opti-Coat. It is non permanent however and must be re applied every 3-5 years per Optimum. It is a new product so I'm not 100% sure on the longevity but every treatment I have sold so far the client has been very satisfied.
