Citizen x Toyota 86 Collaboration Timepiece

Watchmaker Citizen to create a second Citizen x Toyota 86 Collaboration Timepiece.

Simply known as “Hachi-Roku” or “Eight-Six” in Japan, the 1983 Toyota AE86 became the car of choice for professional drivers participating in 1980s’ touring and rallying racing circuits. It was also a favorite of “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya, who propelled the then unknown sport of drifting into popular culture. Though Toyota ended the production of AE86 generation cars back in 1987, the car’s popularity influenced many subsequent models, including the current Toyota 86. Sold as the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ in North America, the Toyota 86 features the same front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration found on the AE86. Thanks to the abundance of aftermarket performance parts, an optimal power-to-weight ratio, and its 2.0-liter Boxer engine, the Toyota 86 quickly gained recognition among today’s street racers. The model’s growing fan-base prompted watchmaker Citizen to create a second Citizen x Toyota 86 Collaboration Timepiece.

Like the earlier edition from 2012, the new Citizen x Toyota 86 Collaboration Watch will be a chronograph, featuring dials and sub-dials in the likeness of the Toyota 86′s speedometer/tachometer. However, there are plenty of additions as well, like the LCD display, which helps to show world time of 43 cities across the globe and a stopwatch function accurate to 1/1000th of a second. Because of its efficient Eco-Drive photovoltaic design, power for the watch’s quartz movement can come from any type of light source. Other features include a mesh design on the main dial that denotes the Toyota 86′s front grille. Comes in polished stainless steel or lightweight titanium alloy, with prices between ?105,000 JPY to ?136,500 JPY ($1000.00 USD to $1300.00 USD), the Citizen x Toyota 86 Collaboration Watch – 2nd Edition will be available in Japan starting this Friday, January 10.

Release Date: January 10, 2014 (Friday)

This would be dope. Not sure how I feel about the digital LCD portion. But the rest is really sleek.

While they're at it, maybe Toyota should let them redesign the ancient digital clock in the dash...

For a grand? No way...but mostly because I don't have an FR-S to match.

It's kinda cool looking, and I'm curious to try a Ti watch, but that price is just crazy for a quartz movement.

At $200 (comparable to similar Citizen watches), I'd think it was pretty neat, but $1000 buys you a whole lot more watch.

That actually appeals to me. Driving at night, turn the screen of the HU off and you've got a simple, unobtrusive dashboard layout. I hate cars with big LCD gauges in the instrument cluster and all that junk - too busy and cluttered.

Its actually not expensive for 1k if it has titanium, perpetual calendar, and radio clock sync technology whatever it's called. I don't know all the specs but it might also have non reflective sapphire crystal glass?

MyJDM citizen is also titanium and it's very light and comfortable to wear due to the titanium body.
Much better value than your regular ripoff Tag or Omega in quartz.

I want it...but I'd rather put $1,000-$1,300 into my car instead of on my wrist.
