I still have a subscription for a paper magazine. Had it for 20 years now. I will however be cancelling it at the end of this period. It used to have dozens of reader and staff tips, pages of reader submitted finished projects and a bunch of kit build reviews by the staff. All with nice big pictures and well written descriptions.
About 3 years ago a new editor took over and changed the whole thing. There may be 1 or 2 tips (if any), a couple of build reviews (almost always fantasy or obscure scifi subjects) they cram about 20 pictures to a page (imagine if all the ones we posted were the size of a stamp) and a handful of reader builds with little detail in how it was built. What they do have in every single issue is about 20% of the space dedicated to painting wargame figures. The info was cool the first two or three times but earing "first I did a base coat, then a dark wash, then highlights" accompanied by tiny picture that look like the subject was 1/2 a mile away got old fast! Come on guys we get it already. It isn't like the magazine is selling to people new to the hobby!
This is why I have migrated to a model forum full of old dudes (seriously I mean OLD. They would call Hum Junior) since they have subject matter more in line with what I do.

It is sort of handy that I post here first and then just cut and paste everything to there.

all of the magazines i used to subscribe to have been bought out, or cancelled. then they roll my remaining 2 year+ subscription into something only vaguely related that has less reader involvement and more editorial shouting-into-the-wind articles, and i start dreading every issue.

Big painting night.

This is how you get soft line between the different camo colours. Yep that is good old silly putty. The thickness lets a little overspray to soften the line.

So this is what you get.

With the hairspray between the silver and topcoat all you have to do is wet the paint, wait a few seconds and then chip and flake it off with a toothpick or hard brush. The action of chipping and flaking the paint makes it look just like chipped and flaked paint.

Now that it looks like it was painted by Subaru it is time to dirty it up a bit!
