The Miata is the literal definition of slow car fast = fun, yet even it is faster than our cars (and likely the new one).

I definitely had more fun in our cars than a Miata though!

early model nd but driving an 86 with stock suspension felt more planted, precise, playful in the back and shifting was way more fun in 86. feel in the corners, speed and level of confidence coming out of them is way more of a priority than straight line speed for me!

I have test driven both back to back (the ND1 version of the Miata) on 2 occasions, and while I agree with much of what you say here (although I preferred the Miata's shifter) the Miata did have one notable advantage that was evident from even a modest drive - the fact that it is about 450 lbs lighter. My own car splits the weight difference, and when I drove the 86 the added weight was evident. I am hoping the GR86 with its much improved rigidity feels a bit lighter on its feet.

hmm well i did forget to mention in my review that i've taken the rear seats out of mine, have cf trunk ( with aforementioned lw flywheel, cf driveshaft, lightweight wheels with stickier tires, and taking out the stock muffler) have some other cf bits that i havent installed yet and will be deleting a few more things. the miata just didnt feel as nimble to me

more money had to be spent to get the 86 to feel out of this world (like it feels AMAZING!!) im aware but that's also part of the fun with the 86 i think (modifying cars is like the fun part of the journey) WITH stock suspension!

performance aside,
the 86 is more my style design wise and then trunk space (the fact i was able to pick up my new wheels 2 hours away in my 86 was so satisfying for some reason). pluuus i coudnt fit this thing from my 86 onto the windshield in the miata i rented without giving up the ability to use the turn signal:

tldr: miata is cool but 86 is cooler says guy who posts on an 86 forum

I wouldn't say it will "likely" be faster than the new one. Looking at the weight/power ratio, Miata sits around 12.93 at best. The first gen twin falls around 13.73 - which is pretty significant, hence why the Miata is a good bit quicker than our first gen. But now looking at second gen, the twin will be around 12.35 in MT form AND a significantly better torque curve (nice and flat). I would highly bet against the current Miata being quicker.

All this because of 6.1 seconds that might not even apply to the 86.

Its the same as Subaru's BRZ. I don't know why ppl are getting excited.

They gave us everything we asked for:

More Power: Check
More Grip: Check
Better Interior: Check
Stiffer Chassis: Check
Almost zero weight Gain: Check

What else do you want from a dedicated cheap RWD Manual Sports car

This is what people want:

More Power: Not Enough...and not turbocharged. 300hp MINIMUM. Can't just beat minivans, it has to destroy them because racecar.
More Grip: Tires too small Needs 19" and at least 235 width.
Better Interior: Not better enough. Wheres the leather/alcantara wrapping and the stitching? Too much hard plastic still, not enough soft plastic, Not Porsche-lite enough, Armrest not armresty enough.
Stiffer Chassis: Same old platform with updates, not a new platform. Why no TNGA/SGP??? CROWN PLATFORM PLEASE BECAUSE ITS RWD!!! They can EASILY shrink it to 86 sized.
Almost zero weight Gain: Not light enough. Could have lost another 200lbs EASY. BACK SEAT DELETE because sports cars dont need back seats!!!

Yeah we already know the specs, but i just want to know availabilty and price and available specs/options (base + GT?). So that i know when i can go take a look at this thing.
