i think it may have it. to me that side skirt looks "fake" and hiding details.

Why do I feel like if the Jalopnik render is correct and I bought one that the average Joes I work with wouldn't even know it was a different car from my BRZ. They'd probably think I just got a cheap body kit, lol.

That certainly isn't a coincidence. If automakers could figure out a cost-effective method to bringing a design like the FT-1 to market it would have been done already. Look again at the FT-1 concept and picture how any of that would meet regulations (no bumpers), be easily repaired (can you even bend steel or aluminum like that without complex tooling?), or cost-effective for an insurance company following even a minor hit. There are a lot of complex shapes that make the FT-1 beautiful. Once you make it production feasible, well, you get the Jalopnik render.

Maybe in another 30 years when 3-d printing goes large scale

Koenseigg and Pagani are 2 of the very small group of automakers who might be able to attempt something so insane. Even then, it would be priced north of 1 million. Lamborghini does crazy, but look at the Hurican. At more than 200K you could call it sedate next to the FT-1.

I think Akio Toyoda and engineers like Tetsuya Tada have a great vision for Toyota right now. Barring a full on economic crisis, I have faith in the cars they will bring to the market. The 86/BRZ were well executed and did not show much compromise in terms of overall design, weight, and driving dynamics. Most other cars these days are absolute pigs in size and weight.

But the LC500 looks quite close to its concept.

The test car outline doesn't look that good to be honest.

the LC will most likely be a $90k+ car. it is also based on a Toyota chassis.

the new "Supra" has been hinted to be anywhere from $50k-$60k. it also involves BMW and we can clearly see the proportions changing to fit in line with the new Z5.

I think the new Supra is the same chassis family as the LC (like how the old Supra and Soarer were).

IIRC the chief engineer made a slip calling the LC project "Supra project" on Motor Trend when they interviewed him for one of their YouTube videos.

nope, they're going into it with BMW. Tada san has been dropping hints for awhile now. not to mention the Supra prototype was spotted leaving and entering a BMW test center.

i do recall that video, but some people think he could just have been confused because of the language barrier.

No kidding. I hope they release that as a premium halo car. Though the business case is weak, they've left us with a severe case of automotive blue balls.

I think the hounds would stop baying if they released even a limited run, exotic priced model FT1. If anyone could afford it, it's Toyota.

Agreed except for weight. The 86 actually came in around 250lbs over target.
