eckoflyte's journey from FWD to RWD
Hey fellas,
So around June of this year, after much deliberation, I decided to sell my DC5R which I had for about 5 years. I thought it was about time to move forward from the FWD platform. Honda's have been my roots and I still love them to death and would've easily snapped up an AP2 S2K if it hadn't been for the introduction of the 86 and its price tag. Although I haven't taken delivery of the new Peg White GTS yet, not until mid Dec, just thought I'd begin the introductions now since it wont be too long. My goals for the car are simple, take it to the track and belt out the fastest laps I can in stock form before beginning any mods. My benchmark track is Wakefield and it was all I did for the entire year of 2011 when I seriously began suspension tuning my DC5R. I achieved a lap time of 1:11:17 official Natsoft time in the DC5 with stock power (147kw - which also happens to be the same as the 86!) and suspension mods. It was a road/street car and still took me around A->B. I really wanted to get in the 1:10 bracket as it was as I knew it was achievable in that form/setup, but inevitably had to sell straight away to get in line early for the GTS. The DC5 was not a perfect car, i found it very difficult in terms of improving handling and the platform was just limited. I didn't want to spend bucket loads on the car as it is just a road car and not a race car. My hopes will be that the 86 will be much more flexible and just be a great car right out of the box without having to spend too much money. I've only test driven one albeit mildly so I haven't felt what it is capable of, however judging by many critic and user reviews I don't think I will be disappointed. Looking forward to seeing what stock laptimes the GTS can pull and you guys can be sure I'll be giving it with whatever experience I have under my belt. During my last outing at Wakefield I wrote up my experiences there with my DC5 here: My experiences and thoughts of Wakefield Park in a DC5R - ClubITR - A Honda Enthusiast Community Here is a clip of my last trackday in the DC5R! Hope to post more updates when I finally get the new car. EDIT 08/12/2012 Meanwhile, the old ride. New ride to come in a week! |

Congratulations! You had pretty much the best FWD platform anyone could ask for, but we all still know that RWD > FWD.
