I mean the ND Miata initially had less power than the NC and was still significantly faster...

I'm confused.. vents in the front fenders, just behind the wheels to mitigate lift.. our cars aren't that fast...

They are obviously there to bleed off heat from the 2.4 turbo engine they are testing.

I did think that the extra vents = bigger engine... but I don't wish to raise my hopes.. so keeping/managing my expectations so I'm not disappointed when the facelift involves some blank vents and a yellow intake manifold.. oh, I hope the BRZ doesn't inherit the 'goofy' Toyota front lip!!

BTW seen the new GRM Yaris.. it looks brilliant.. A real ball of fury..

That is assuming they are functional vents. Couldn't imagine a street car with functional vents there from the factory. That would throw road debris down the side of the car.

You would be surprised how much air pressure is generated in the engine bay. With my ducted hood, when it is raining I can see the air disturbing the rain hitting the wind shield pretty significantly. I'd imagine there is quite a bit in the wheel wells too. Though how that translates in the real world is probably not very significant.

The Kia Stinger has functional lower fender vents (even if they look like Pep Boy Specials).

But the Zupra doesn't.

Some street cars do have functional fender vents. BMW (and others) use them for the reason you stated; "...to relieve built-up air pressure from inside the wheel arches which causes aerodynamic lift."

There are plenty of examples of street cars with functional vents. And I’m not just talking about big sportscars like M3’s, GT3RS, etc... Check the Clio RS 197 & 200 from a couple of years(a car that would be the FWD equivalent of the twins, in so many ways), and there are a couple of other hot hatches with vents. Debris isn’t an issue at all.

Even the 86 14R60 had vented fenders.

My "couldn't imagine" statement was probably a bit off. Yes I know there are standard cars out there with functional vents. It is just not the norm is what I probably should have said They gravel our roads here in the winter. I would have to tape those bastards off.

A torque dip to put all other torque dips to shame

I’ve gotten so used to it, it could feel weird if the 2nd gen doesn’t have the torque dip
