Stability control is to thank for that. They can give it much more neutral handling, but the electronics will protect the car from ham fisted drivers.

Sorry, but my experience is the opposite.
My MR expereince is from the Porshce 914.
IME, the MR layout gives you more consistent behavior at the limit, and more forgiving than FR when trying to recover.

Even the few times I have actually spun the MR, it was more predictable what it was going to do.

I once spun it in the rain on a cloverleaf and recovered the spin after 360 degrees and kept on going!

There's a little orange 914 parked up on the family farm. It was my uncle's first car right out of college, purchased brand new. I tried SO hard to buy that little car from him when I was about sixteen. He was saving it for his retirement to turn into an electric...

Definitely fear! After 10 years of sw20 ownership, I'm still scared shitless of the car. I drove the nsx, it's way more planted and stable because of it's longer wheelbase when compared to the mr2. If these guys think the nsx is bad for snap oversteer/lift off oversteer, the sw20 made its name from just that!

If your uncle still has the 914 (original), then tell him to sell it and buy a junker to convert to electric.
It would be sacrelige to convert a "good" car if you checked what they are going for now.
A "perfect" original 4-cyl will get you upwards of 20k.

I kind of like having multiple generations of: 2.0L, 4-cyl, Boxers in the barn...

I actually think it looks kinda cool. I'd rock it.

There's plenty of mint-condition NSXs out there if you really want one. Not cheap, but not unicorns either. I don't have a problem with one going wayward lol

Back in the early 90's, a company called Newport Convertible Engineering was performing those conversions on the NSX. That clamshell looks like one of theirs but it's been years since I've seen one. They also offered a Targa version before the NSX targa was ever available. They were out of California and they offered convertible conversions for lots of different cars that were never offered that way. From Range Rovers to Ferraris to Rolls Royce. Their conversions appeared to be quality builds.
