Ohio Route 555, July 14th anyone?
Update:
Meet at the Zane Plaza Shopping Center at 11am Head down 555 around Noon Bring: Water or drinks Camera GPS unit Optional: Friend or family member Cash Push to talk radio Knock on wood, hopefully you don't need: Updated insurance card First Aid kit AAA card Hey guys, Thinking about a getting meet/cruise down 555 for Sunday, July 14th if there is anyone interest. Nothing crazy, just a fun drive and meet (i.e. no law breaking and keeping the locals happy). I was thinking meet in Zanesville around 11am-ish, sit around talk for an hour or so, head down 555 (approximately 2 hours via google maps), late lunch in Parkersburg. I know other friends would want to join, but I was thinking it would be fun to just keep it to FRS/BRZs. If anyone has suggestions, meet places, etc. just speak up. I'll post in other threads to get more regions involved. Let's do this. Last edited by BigOxley; 07-12-2013 at 08:13 AM. |

Yeah, it'd probably be a all day thing for anyone driving from Cleveland.
Times are obviously flexible at this point. |

I just realized how much driving I'd be doing that day...haha. Two hours from Dayton to Zanesville, then three hours from Parkersburg to Dayton...let me think about it, as long as I have the money available for gas I'll still be willing to do it.

Having done this before, I can tell you taht you need to budget a whole day. If you leave northern Ohio around 7-8 AM, you will be getting back home around dinnertime. Sadly, if you go july 14th, I won't be able to make it. I'd also rather go on a Saturday, but that's just my preference.
I'd also suggest picking up route 26 on the way back up (if you go south on Rt 555). If you do 26 in the AM and then transition to 555 on the way back up, its a bit more direct. There are alot of good photo-ops on route 26, old covered bridges and lots of twisties. Here are a couple links to help you: Route 555 [ame="https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Greene+St&daddr=39.5686632,-81.160438+to:39.7974591,-81.0451393+to:39.870143,-81.0790577+to:OH-26+N%2FNew+Castle+Rd&hl=en&ll=39.810646,-81.175919&spn=0.301177,0.396881&sll=39.83965,-81.169052&sspn=0.301049,0.396881&geocode=FSZtWQIdy kIl-w%3BFRfFWwIdCpcp-ykRpADYA95JiDGM6QS1jvbUMg%3BFdNCXwIdbVkr-ymTVgofdxo2iDGJSlQrvEz5Xw%3BFb9eYAId79Qq-ynHrA0MtBY2iDHh3AgfJ6uEVg%3BFWlSYQIdFrkq-w&t=h&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=11&via=1,2,3&z=11"]Route 26[/ame] Not sure how I embedded the Route 26 map, but there you go. |

I am "out" of this on two counts. First, I do not drive an FR-S/BRZ. Second, I already have a family event scheduled for July 14th. However, I have done both the "Triple Nickel" (RT 555) and RT 26. They are both great driving roads. They are not as intense as the Tail of the Dragon's 388 curves in 11 miles but then you do not have to drive 11 hours one way to get to them either They also last up to 1 1/2 hours as opposed to just 20+ minutes for a Dragon run. The speed limit is 45-55MPH whereas the Dragon is 30MPH. Traffic is also much less of a problem. These routes are just two of the many great roads in the region. There is no place else in the state where you can experience this type of driving for sustained periods of time. I highly recommend including both of them in a "Loop" which you will remember and talk about for a long time to come. Go! You will not be disappointed.
Here is a link to great driving roads in Ohio: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/states/oh.html Have fun and be safe!

May be up for this provided I don't have to work overtime that day. Just did 555 a couple days ago, good stuff.

Traffic was almost non-existent this past Sunday. I jumped on 555 at Zanesville around 9:30am. I didn't take it all the way into WV though. I got off on 550 over to Marietta then took 7 all the way up the river to East Liverpool. I was a good day.
