I have some great twisty backroads 10 min from my house in and around Harriman state park, NY. Some of the best are closed for the winter right now. But I can say that my 16 BRZ with a header and tune is a blast to drive on them. I imagine the 22 will be just as good and likely better with more torque and stiffer chassis.

That's what WRXs are for. No BRZ, and I own one, is going to be anywhere near as good as a rally car. |

PS - never mind if they are "pinched" since that is a way of life for street class autocrossers. |

For street class I have to be on 7.5" width wheels. I'm not too worried about pinching wide treads on the wheels but don't want to do any mods to fenders. I've read that thread but will look again to see if there's anyone else running stock wheel widths.

I Drove an sti on a rally training stage for half a day, sure it accelerates better but i would chose a fairly light RWD car any day for the fun factor. Not sure about the classes you have, but over here rwd and awd wouldn't compete in the same class anyway.

For amateur rally, cost and parts availability is usually a bigger factor than performance. 2WD class is usually big and competitive as a result. Lots of E36s and twins in there in recent years.

I know there are a few out there but it's lacking when compared to the number of low stance/drift/track builds. I'd also love unscripted raw reviews that are not cut up and carefully crafted. I'd love to see reviews and perhaps Information on people doing rally builds or improving on it's traits as a mountain/canyon sports car instead of turning it into a race/drag car. Numbers are not always important, How playful can i get with this car on open wild roads and have fun while still maintaining balance and feeling safe/in control. What mods improve on that experience? How do the cars they are placing against it on the track hold up in twisty canyon roads with bumps, hairpin turns and sudden weather? |
