Roof replacement

I had a minor accident while backing up into parking in pitch darkness. roof got "crushed" and scratched up. Already filed a claim and everything and am just curious.

anyone know if the roof is one piece with the frame? or is it just welded on?

http://imgur.com/a/AtV6Z

i just hope the support structure below is not damaged.

New Update: if you wanna see what beneath the roof looks like.

The roof is just a skin tack welded to the supports. From the looks of things I would say that even if the supports are warped a bit they are totally repairable. Won't be cheap since a roof repair involves a shit load of labour.

yah i was quoted by a shop at minimum $1700. insurance is gonna take care of it, but i gotta pay $500 deductible. shit happens i suppose... i just hope its going to as good as new once they get the new roof fitted. :/

If the shop is even remotely good then you will never know it happened. The actual repair is easy. The bigger issue may be the paint colour match but at least you don't have white.

And personally I think the story is hilarious (no offence) since this is the sort of thing that only sports cars drivers can do. Like really, how many "I backed under a trailer" stories have you ever heard?

You pull off the rubber drip rail moldings and you will see/feel small round circles. These are where the roof is spot welded to the frame. The welds need to be drilled/ground down to remove the roof. You will also have welds on the flange the front/rear glass sits on, so they will need removed to gain access.

Unfortunately insurance will not give me a CF roof :/ i'll definitely be more careful from now on though. funny thing is, our car is so low, the bottom of the trailer is right at my roof line. and in pitch black, it was nearly impossible to see. Lesson learned i suppose.

The shop the insurance company set me up for has a pretty good rating and great reviews, i saw some pictures of their shop on their website and it look very professional. so i hope it'll go smoothly.

I almost wish something would happen to my roof so insurance can cover most of the cost to swap in a carbon fiber roof :-)

yah people were telling me about replacing it with CF roof. but OEM is $350 while CF roof is $1700... provided they don't break your windshield, the entire job was $3800 with OEM roof.
