This harms the original company far more since now their brand is being tarnished when the products don't hold up to their standards. This is exactly why Rota was involved in a lawsuit not too long ago because people were counterfeiting their wheels.
It was ground breaking because they got a knock off club to be declared a counterfeit. There was no logo infringement.

No idea how much money and work went into that case, though.

Edit: Here's a bit of detail on what happened:

I don't know how aggressively Callaway patented their IP or whatnot...

This is a perfect case for the phrase "You get what you pay for." Keep in mind what your paying for in this case is what's supporting the weight of your car and moving forward ( or backwards ). When it comes down to building a car, I throw the word budget out the window, I pay for what I really want on my car, not something I would be content with because it doesn't break my bank. Work for what you want! Aha

What brand shoe do you wear? If it doesn't cost more than $1000, it doesn't even matter if you reply.

Funny thing you say, it puts the shoe on the other foot (yeah, I had to.) I was looking at shoes online not so long ago and came across a "shoe porn" thread on another site. People were showing off really expensive shoes, brands I'd never heard of. From what I could tell they looked like they were high quality, but I had no idea why they were so expensive. As an outsider looking in, there's no reason that shoe I saw should cost 1200 dollars versus a cheap pair I can get that has a similar appearance for 100 bucks.

An outsider looking in probably has no idea why a set of XXR wheels is 600 bucks and a set of ADV.1 is 10k. Hell I'm on the inside and I still have no fucking clue why ADV.1 is 10k.

They cater to a different (richer) crowd. You're never going to sell $10,000 wheels to people buying a $25,000 car.

10% of $25,000 = $2,500. Not unreasonable for a set of forged wheels.

10% of $100,000 = $10,000. Not unreasonable for a set of forged wheels.

On a different note, is anybody else feeling a bit mislead by the title of this thread? There was no documentary. Just an angry man typing his opinion on the internet.

No. I could easily differentiate the two. Enkei has a particular lip style, the spokes are way thicker, and the kinks on the spokes are way more aggressive. If 6 double-spoke wheels were your criteria, there's a bunch of wheels that fit the category. Including Enkei's GTC01, and GTC01RR (Waiting for this wheel to release).

He has a point though. A knock off can be a similar design inspired by the original, which is really what that Enkei is. And then you have replicas, which are an aesthetic duplicate of the original. And lastly counterfeits using the original brand name on their product to defraud.

I don't even see how what I said even has to do with what I have, I was speaking generally. I have friends who have totaled their car due to a rep wheel shattering after hitting a minor pothole. I'm currently saving for Enkei rs05rr's right now though aha.

Oops - that's my fault. I wanted to write "Commentary", I didn't realize.

Fixed!

It has everything to do with what you said and what others are arguing. Why would you stop buying the "best" at your car? Why not extend that out to your clothes, food, toiletries, shoes, school, etc?

Also, if you wear cheap shoes, you are opening yourself up to crybabies who will say you are wearing knock-offs or replicas that will murder your family and rape their carcasses because they are shoe-shaped and in the same color as a super ultra expensive luxury brand name shoe.

So the OEM wheels cost Toyota how much? Are they going to chatter in a million pieces if it costs them less than $500?

Just because they are cheap it doesn't mean they aren't fit for purpose. Most cheap wheels do not endanger your life. If they do, proper authorities should be notified.

Like everything else, most people only need wheels to fit basic requirements, it follows a bell curve. Of course there are a few that really need very specific requirements, e.g. competitive racecar drivers.

How about competitive hard parking?

Don't be close-minded, when I say I'm saving for something it doesn't mean I'm putting my whole income into it lol. I respect your opinion though. I like the craftsmanship that's put into a product, and if I feel it's priced right I'll buy it. Like enkei wheels, they may have wheels that take design aspects from other wheels but the structural rigidity and the weight of their wheels are just awesome.
