"shock absorber" should technically refer to the springs in a car, not the dampers.

"motor" when referring to an engine

"coilover" when referring to an aftermarket height-adjustable coil-over-damper setup, and not simply a coil spring over a damper, as in stock suspension. what's even funnier is when height adjustable spring seats that don't fit over the damper are provided in one of these kits (think volkswagen rear or ae86 etc), and they're still called coilovers.

"dizzy"

"rattle gun"

"pig" or "pumpkin"

like it or not, there's a TON of slang, shorthand, and incorrect terminology in the automotive world. splitting hairs over "wheel" and "rim" makes you look like a nerd. worse, a nerd who learned everything from nerds on NASIOC instead of from turning wrenches next to old timers.
Many "old timers" I know never say rim and usually are the first to point out it's wrong.

that's true, but you get what I'm saying. as car people, we call tons of things by technically incorrect shorthand.

My pet peeve: Tints. As in, "Yo I just got tints on my FR-S LOL"

It's just window TINT. You do not get several tints. You just get tint on your windows. Singular.

Also, it's tire TREAD, not THREAD.

Well, if you got one tint on each window then you would have multiple tints, right? And if you run the tire long enough you could definitely get down to thread.

Nah but then it would be several pieces/sheets of tint.

Well aren't you a bad ass. I guess I am "a nerd who learned everything from nerds on NASIOC instead of from turning wrenches next to old timers." That's exactly why I got a BRZ..because I always hang out on NASIOC. Just in case you couldn't read the sarcasm, I wouldn't touch NASIOC with a ten foot pole.
