PSA for those of you new to this and considering buying out of state
Given the global shortage and various markups locally, it might be cheaper to buy a car from out of state.
I did this back in 2013 since the BRZ (at the time) was in short supply and sell price was close to MSRP (or sometimes even higher). I ended up buying from Heuberger in Colorado Springs and got a fun experience out of it. The process for importing a new car into California was also easy, but I have the benefit of having done this many times before... Obviously the procedure varies from state to state, but since California is the most complicated it still is pretty valid. My comments: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...&postcount=410 The entire thread: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20652 Still relevant for prospective gen 2 owners. |

Awesome. I've seen that dealership name on the WRX forums. I see a lot of people buying from them since you get the best deal, even with shipping the car over to California

Has anyone had a recent experience with heuberger? I think they gave up on the forums and trying to help out the enthusiasts in 2017-2018 unless I'm wrong. I did have a great experience with my 2017 BRZ performance package but I don't have any reason to believe the people that actually care are still around anymore

replace Heuberger w/ any other dealer and you'll follow the same process, as long as that dealer knows how to do the paperwork properly. A key part of this is that dealer should not be charging you sales tax of any kind from the state they are in, unless they are folding YOUR local sales tax into the financing. |

I bought a car in Washington state and brought it back to California about 4 years ago. Simple, just need Bill of sale, smog check, title, and your checkbook.

I contacted Heuberger around September/October and they were selling at MSRP basically. They were also well into next year for orders to be delivered. Not sure about open allocations or if its all orders due to their volume
