The only thing I can think of as to why he would end it that way is because even if he left her there, he probably wouldn't be ending that relationship any time soon. So what would he do? Leave her there, go home and wait for her to come and tear him a new one? Maybe she was crazy and he knew even if he ended the relationship she would keep following him. Obviously he was able to put up with 5 hours before this incident. There was probably some trend to their behavior that had worn on him constantly for any amount of time. Who knows how long they'd been doing this.
