I've been wanting an 86 twin since the early 2000's (it'll make sense in a future post, I swear.)
I've been waiting for something really special to come along, and a model that has everything enhanced handling-wise, and was previously only a jdm-unicorn fits that bill well.
I had been planning on getting a base-model Porsche Cayman as my next car, but a 1/500 BRZ that is said to handle this well is a great way to have something much more unique than a Porsche in LA (So many people I work with have 911's.) The $20k savings and ease of repair and modification are nice bonuses too.

Having had many used Japanese sports cars in the past, you're also granted the gift of hindsight in what's going to be perceived as desirable in the future.
And it's almost always the limited production models with a focus on increased handling and performance that most thought were overpriced when they were new, and few people bought because of that reason. In addition, it's always the kouki models too, where the companies have had a chance to work through any major flaws the car has had, but are generally rare due to the natural lack of sales in the later model years.

I intend on hanging onto an 86 twin for as long as I can, and having the chance to buy one new, it'll be nice to look back and know I got something unique. It'll be like owning the modern day version of an AE86 Black Limited, or an FD RX-7 Spirit R. To most people it won't matter, but if you're really into a car, it's cool to have something special like that.

The reason why "so many people have 911's" is due to the 50 years of continual evolution of the car. Along with prestige , and what the car is capable of speed/handling wise. Its got a long history, along with a long list of race pedigree. Not many cars can come close, given its hp/torque / handling ... out of the box (no mods needed). Sure, parts cost more then most/all Japanese cars.

Really, no one should have to buy a car... $25k - 35k , or $100k , then do mods after the fact. To each his own, but even just the initial cost of a vehicle is enough.

Called SOA after work today and got my VIN with an ETA of March 6th!! So stoked! The girl told me it wouldn't be ready for like a week after though because of inspections and registration and whatnot. Contacted my dealer tell him of the arrival date and he said it can be picked up same day

With that attitude you have no business being on a forum. You have no business calling yourself a car enthusiast frankly.

There are far more modified 911's out there than there are 86's total. Seriously get a clue.

My local dealer just sent me an e-mail saying he secured me a white tS but needs a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. Problem is I unexpectedly just picked up a 2001 Boxter S (deal was too good to pass up) for my project/track car so I am not sure I want to leave a non-refundable deposit on this tS knowing I might not take it once it arrives at the dealer. If someone is interested in a white one, I will put you in touch with the dealer. I have no affiliation with the dealer.

Yep!
And far far more 911s out there that were bought by somebody because 'Porsche'. The owners have no clue what the car can do since they putter around under the speed limit for an hour every sunny Saturday and then pack it up again. They can recite all the specs from memory and open it up to show the engine but think "mod" means it is new and "enthusiast" means that they read all the car magazines. This is the main reason so many people have Porsches in general.

The dealer I'm getting mine at has an identical Black tS coming in the same day as mine, and is only charging msrp for it. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with this dealer nor am I receiving any benefits for a referral. Just want to help out my fellow 86 enthusiasts.

If anyone in SoCal is looking for a black tS at msrp with the following options and an early (2/27) delivery date, pm me, and I'll give you my sales guy's contact info.

Crystal Black Silica
STI short shifter
Rear cargo tray
Footwell illumination (blue)
rear bumper appliqué
wheel locks
Homelink auto-dimming mirror

Looks like my deposit from December finally paid off, my local dealer (a Subaru of New England dealer) confirmed that they are getting one. World Rally Blue! ETA: arriving at Port mid-March, at dealer by late March-early April.

No attitude here, just telling it like it is.

I haven't taken a poll of all 911 owners, who has/ hasn't modified ( to engine and/or Suspension only) ,or twins owners for that matter. It would be interesting to see how many have (or what % of). I'd bet the percentage is less with 911 owners, then BRZ/86/FRS owners ( aftermarket modifications to engine and/or suspension, not from factory).

To each his own, if you want to modify or not. It costs money to modify, and to add any real HP/ torque you're throwing $5k at least at the fire. It's my perception that people who modify, do so mainly because they feel something about the car is inadequate from factory and that part is thus modified. If it was really that bad, everyone (OK…99%) would be making the modification.

I don't think it's bad for you to be on the forum, I just don't understand why you'd want to be, not understanding car culture as you do...
