Random Thoughts - Part Deux [NO POLITICS]

Had to rescue my buddy Friday after work. Car quit on the side of the freeway so he called me since it was close by. Couldn't get it started, towed it off the freeway with about a 12ft long ratchet strap. Went and got some gas because it was acting like it didn't have fuel. After dumping a few gallons in it and dumping some fuel into the carb, it would only run on what was splashed into it. After a few attempts at that, took the hose off the carb from the fuel pump and it was bone dry. He didn't want to wait for a tow, we were in a super sketchy part of town, so we used that 12ft long strap and towed it the 8 or so miles to his house during 5pm traffic across town. What fun that was took about an hour to tow him since we kept on having to stop and let traffic by, I had to laugh about it. About two hours after he called me we got it home. Used a squeeze bulb to fill the float bowls and were able to get it backed up into it's spot in the garage. Did my good deed this month.

So, you towed something? With your truck? Hmmm...

Yeah, mostly. The thing is, we were using a ratchet strap not meant for towing. And that car has now power anything and this strap was really short, less then a car length. So it was really sketchy and I was worried he would not be able to stop behind me when we came up to a light or if someone pulled out in front of us.

Yes. Tried calling a parts store to see if one had it and was going to tow the car there, but the only one that had it was in a hard to get to spot in town so it was easier to just drop the car off at his house.

Piece of cake with two people that know how to both tow and be towed. Each has their job. My dad and I had that shit down.

I learned from this very forum that nobody actually uses trucks like trucks.

Did he haul anything? No. Could he as easily towed it with a car? Yes

Yeah, I imagine I would have been a lot more comfortable with it if it was his son in law in the car or my dad. I probably underestimated his ability to deal with his own car after the little experience I had driving and it's manual brakes and steering.

lol I don't think that is isolated to the forum. I know far more people with trucks that have no need for one at all. I was talking to a buddy of mine last night over beers and his brother in law has some diesel brodozer that is fully built. Has never towed or hauled a thing in it. He has some 20-30K in mods to the thing and is getting ready to spend more on a new transmission. He already has a different valve body and a billet convertor in the thing. The best part is he still owes money on it

I know what you mean. Takes a couple outings to build the trust.
