I'm going to hazard a guess as to the cause here, and hopefully this helps you out. You might feel that you are saying things that seem obvious to you, that other people just don't seem to understand. But when challenged, you seem to have difficulty explaining why that obvious thing is true. The idea just makes so much sense until you have to put it into words to explain to someone. You still believe in the idea, but you can't quite make that logical connection apparent. That is certainly a problem I face every single day at least. If that is the case, might I suggest the following strategy which has worked well for me in my professional life. When you encounter a challenge to something you can't explain at the moment: 1. Give yourself some time. You don't need to respond right away, most people won't care if you need some time to put together a reasoned response, especially not on a car forum. 2. Acknowledge the point. If you wind up in this situation, recognize the challenge as valid, because it is clearly something you have to think through. A valid challenge to your statement does not mean you have lost the debate. 3. Turn the challenge/point into a question(s). Challenges come in many forms, but turning it into a question helps to focus your thoughts finding what information the challenger (or yourself) might be missing. 4. Answer the question(s). Provide the requested information. I also recommend anticipating likely challenges to the answers and repeating steps 3 and 4 for those. Also, you should be prepared to come to the "wow, I'm wrong" or "I don't know how to answer that" conclusions when entering this step. Happens to me all the time. 5. Respond to the point. Identify what you are responding to, respond, and complete the response before moving on to something else. Responses may include refuting the point, providing a detailed explanation, or even conceding the point. |

Yep I absolutely refuse to see my dentist's face. I'm glad he's required to mask up. Only one of us should have to see the other's teeth!

And, anecdotally I know of a couple of unvaxed people who caught Covid, recovered from it, caught it again and wound up in the hospital on ventilators. Both survived the second encounter but it appears neither will ever truly recover. There are countless instances where living in society requires us to sublimate our personal desires and preferences for the good of the community. There are a multitude of vaccine requirements for everything from school attendance to military service. We face educational requirements for employment, testing requirements for school admissions, licensing requirements for a raft of professions, driving, flying, weapons possession just to name a few. These vaccines have taken on an importance far beyond what they warrant. They have become a political litmus test for part of our society. A line they will not cross. That would be understandable if they could articulate cogent arguments to support their positions. But they can’t. Everything they come up relies on deception and slight of hand - Bill Clinton’s language parsing attempts pale by comparison. A lot of people, of us, are weary of the bullshit. We too would like a break from the arguments. We, too, would like a break from the virus. So let’s make a deal - get the damn vaccine. Once everyone has, we’ll take stock of where we are and move forward. This won’t be over for a long time. There are a lot of letters in the Greek alphabet before we get to omega. In the meantime there are a lot of things to get pissed off about if you want. The destruction of the environment, voter suppression, the availability and costs of health care, inequality, poverty, homelessness - and thousands more. Let’s get past this virus and move on to making the world a better place.

In the present case, however, it is. If you 1)don't want to go to restaurants, 2) don't want to go to work, 3) don't want to shop, 4) don't want any contact with other creatures, that can be done w/o getting vaccinated. If one truly wants to be alone, they can. It's only if one wants to breathe on or around other people (i.e. being not alone) that one has a problem.

The issue, Captain, is that these people want the right to be ignorant if they choose to be. But we cannot refuse them healthcare for ethical reasons. In a sense we are vaccinating to keep society together while people resist vaccinating are fragmenting it. Denial or conveniently disregarding scientific proofs is necessary for them to carry on their miserable paths. In the end we will squeeze down infection rates ONLY if almost everyone gets vaccinated and most likely boosters. Of course nobody wants boosters every 6 or 12 months, but until they figure out how they can create a vaccine that prevents infection longer term, that is the situation. And again more people vaccinated will prevent a steady stream of variants, perpetuating the disease in our society DESPITE our having the resources to prevent it. It is in fact still the Delta variant that accounts for most infections, especially in vaccinated people.
I like cats, they are sanitary animals and therefore welcome in my home. In at least one major religion (not mine), they are viewed that way as well. It seems counter to being human to not welcome humans in your life that are unsanitary, but that's essentially what it's coming down to since unlike in medieval times we mainly catch disease from other humans, not rats and vermin.

Our vet told me she doesn't know of any domestic cats that have been infected despite reports of large cats infected in zoos.
Dogs seem to be ok and I don't know about all you people, but I generally do not get up close and personal with wildlife.
