I actually think that it's one of two things:

The Japanese manufacturers think the JDM look doesn't appeal to the US market (which is possible), or they just want to keep some of the really cool stuff for their home market. It's been this way for decades. JDM cars always got the coolest kit.

I don't see the big deal myself. I see a GT86 TRD (Japan) edition and I see a Scion RS 1.0 TRD (USA) edition. Never thought somehow they were connected in any way.

The spoiler on the RS1.0 actually seems considerably better to me.

They probably changed the diffuser because they know ricers in the US are gonna scrape and probably drive too slow anyway.

manufactures sometimes re-design kits like this after only two years...just to change the flavor up...it may be more aerodynamic in the end, or it may not be...guess you can wait and find out...

You can still see yellow below the foglights, to me it looks like it doesn't fit properly. Maybe it's just the prototype, but looks like a cheapo knockoff IMO.

TRD in Japan probably didn't want to see their kit sell with a $30k vehicle.

Major issue with me on this isn't that they didn't bring TRD JP kit, but more of TRD US was lazy & stupid enough that they didn't create their own style body kit.

IDK about you guys, but I kind like Scion optional spoiler. They were creative enough to make their own design. They should of done the same. They should of thrown away TRD JP kit idea and design their own style body kit. Hell, if they needed help developing, just contact me or admin to make event here. We as a forum could of helped a ton and cheaper. Only thing they needed to do is give the winner free kit or ticket to one of Toyota event & pretty sure good amount of member here would of been satisfied... at least I would of been happy with that.

...but what do I know about political & marketing stuff.

Well, I think TRD/Toyota simply wanted it to be different from from the Jap version.

Personally I like different variations. I am happy it is different.
