I currently have a Evo X MR with SST Tranny. It's fun, but I want a manual and better gas mileage.

Im in the same spot as the OP. my hope is that the FR-S/BRZ can give me the same steering/handling feel in a smaller, lighter, and cheaper package. the X is great, but it IS heavy, and it IS full of electronic wizardry (AWC and AYC) that you cant turn off. it also sucks gas like crazy and insurance is ridiculous. the rear seats are relatively roomy, but the trunk is tiny.
hopefully the aftermarket will take care of the FR-S/BRZ's power deficit. |

do you prefer the S2K over your EvoX
going from one to the other will be same as with the FRS (and you get a rear seat for your offspring)

In person, the BRZ feels about half the size of the Evo X, which is a big tall beast. The Evo X is tall, and the BRZ is short. IMO, they're different worlds.
Envision your S2000 with a huge rear parcel shelf, and you've got the right mind-set for the usefulness of the BRZ's rear seats. They technically fit people, like a Porsche 911, but not comfortably, and not willingly unless it's a dare.

I much much prefer the s2k. It's not even comparable. The Evo X is phenomenal for what it is, but it's not a sports car by any stretch. This is just IMO ofcourse.
I can't wait to get rid of the Evo X, which is prompting me to look at the BRZ (or another s2k (CR)). |

I loved my Evo X. Reliable, blisteringly fast, and exceptionally easy to drive.
I ultimately sold it because I felt the car did more driving than I did. The rear differential did an uncanny job of mitigating understeer and you had to do little more than point the car where you wanted it to go and mash the throttle when coming out of an apex as the car practically sorted itself. They're amazing machines but I like the driving aspects of a simpler, N/A RWD car compared to the Evo.

^ Nice wheels! SE37?
For whatever reason, I don't get an attachment with the Evo X. Like you mentioned, it does feel like the car is doing a lot of the driving. It's a bit boring IMO. |

Yes, I agree completely. I went to a 993 (complete opposite end of the spectrum) and it was way too much work to drive (and maintain) and I ultimately settled on the Boss. If I had a larger budget and a tow vehicle, I would certainly go back to a classic 911. I'm still contemplating picking up a S2000 as a daily driver instead of the BRZ but I do think the BRZ's will retain superior fuel mileage and cargo capacity that will ultimately make more sense day-to-day. I'm assuming you love your S2K?

For a daily, I'd get the BRZ for the storage room and creature comforts such as bluetooth NAV.
I love the s2k!!! So much so that I am tempted to get another (CR) for street use & competitive autocross. (I daily drive the NYC subway ) |

Nice. My commute is a paltry 4.2 miles but snow and poor plowing in my area makes the Jeep convenient; I'm hoping snow tires will make the BRZ capable enough to not be a hindrance.

If the evo was so boring then why did you buy it? Thats a lot to spend on a boring sporty vehicle. If I cant grin on a test drive it isn't worth it.
