Leaning out!

FBM base kit with gtx2867r and 550cc injectors on e85. Made over 460 on the dyno then the failsafe kicked in after a few runs. Car was over 18.5 psi if I remember correctly. Figured we hit the limit of the fuel system. Backed it down to 450 and car ran great on the street. Then after a week or so it started breaking up in 4th under boost. I turned the boost down to 16.5 and the problem went away. Then it came back. Lean conditions almost randomly in boost. Usually after a hard shift. It will pull to redline just fine 9 out of 10 times but leans out when back on the throttle after shifting and almost only after shifting. Once in awhile at 4500 under load the failsafe kicks in in 4th. Thankfully the failsafe in my tune is great, stays at 13.1 and 8psi with my foot to the floor but wont climb in rpms. So slowly Ive had to lower the boost. Made me think the fuel pump was dying since it made over 460 at one point and has been tapering off. (I do not have an ecutek cable yet but am on the verge of overnighting one from jaaapan so I can pull a damn log and be done) so I called lj @FullBlown and he set me up with the awesome walbro 485. Great setup, tight fit though. I had the boost turned down to 15 prior to the new pump instal and hadnt had any issues other then being slower. With the new pump in I turned it up to 16.5 again and the failsafe kicked in at around 5000. My guess now without a log is sparkplugs, or injectors. Has anyone for sure maxxed out the 550s on e85 and at what power? Im sure i was at the limit but why has it tapered off slowly over a week or two? Its actually been getting warmer since we made more power before the problem. Anyone want some 550s?

PI duty was 93% @ 1.2bar. I made an Ecutek custom map setup that is manifold pressure vs Wbo2 that cuts the TFQ if afrs and boost are not within an acceptable range. This car dyno'd 440ish whp on e85 with 550cc injectors. It is clearly out if PI injector and needs larger ones installed to work with current fuel system .

550cc injectors without a rising rate fpr are only equivalent to 400ish cc injectors under full load because of the pressure differential.

Posting from my phone so excuse any errors.

Also wanted to add reason it's leaning out now and not before is now you have run more tanks of E85 through it. I guaranty the E85 content now is much higher then previously.

What he said ^

I don't know where you reside but maybe since winter is almost over, the blend of e% is way higher.

well damn! I didnt even think about E content. That explains why my cold start changed again. I really need an ecutek cable. All of that would have been painfully obviouse. Thanks doug @TopSpeed. I tried calling to get the PI duty but you're always on the dyno on days ive gotten out of work early enough to call.

I know LJ recommends swapping to the 1000s when you decide to run E85 and more boost on the FBM kit.

very true. I originally went with 550s because i dont have E85 near me but now i keep a 55 gallon drum at my house with a comercial pump. I also have someone that drives 3 hours south of me to courier something for work every week and they pass right by 2 e85 stations!! Boom, problem solved. I didnt figure this out until i had bought the 550's though. I also thought 400whp would be enough, but after turning it up then slowly losing it i want it back now. I have a work related thing that will keep me gone for the next few weeks but ill be seeing @TopSpeed shortly after. At least we know the limit on 550's now with e85.

If your location said something other than "mountains" we might be able to help.

I have a tactrix and a ELM327 bluetooth adapter.
I believe you can still log from a ecutek tune with one of those, but not sure.

I live in the "mountains" too (N. CO.)
