Why not? Because you strike me as the type that would hesitate to use it. If you hesitate too long, the bad guy is liable to take it away from you and shoot you with it. I would suggest you buy and keep by your front door a baseball bat. See, I figure most homeless folks don't carry guns but they may carry a knife. So, if they try to break into your apartment, just slam them in the head with your bat. Repeat as necessary. Since I'm too damn old to use a bat as a weapon, I rely upon my WWI trench knife to greet people that-I-don't-know, at the door. Remember - the best home defense is ..... DON'T OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR! |

^i had a couple different responses typed up like that, but didn't want to come off as too anti-gun in a gun thread
![]() i completely agree on the baseball bat. cheap, legal, no practice needed. and anyone screaming and swinging one comes off as crazy, which is bonus points to ward off other attacks. when dealing with bad people, it's important to always be the craziest in the room. no one screws with crazy.

I love the guys who get a .45 for home defense. The thing will go thru multiple walls. My main home defense weapon is a short barreled shotgun, and the first round is bird shot. If that doesn't get their attention, the next 7 rounds are buckshot. You have to shoot. If you don't know how to use your weapon without thinking about it, you won't know how when the shit hits the fan and you are scared and your blood turns to pure adrenaline. For homeless bums, I would get a bat and a big can of pepper spray to keep near the door. |

best time i ever had at the range was watching a big burly tough guy that's never shot before walk up to the line with his brand new 45, lines up down range, fires, and screams as the gun jumps out of his hands.

I’ve gravitated toward a .9mm CZ P07 for range use and home defense. It fits my hand really well. I installed Cajun Gun Work’s Pro-grade Kit and an Inforce APLc weaponlight. With the upgraded trigger and heavier action spring it’s a dream to shoot. I shoot a little better with it than I have anything else in the same weight range. The trigger placement really works for me. I like that it allows me to have a hand free at all times for opening doors and closets and flipping light switches.

Lol. Yup. They do.
![]() I actually enjoy shooting smaller cartridges quite a bit more, but .9mm is a good compromise, reasonably cheap to shoot for someone like me who doesn’t reload, and hopefully won’t completely destroy my ears if I need to use it indoors.

Spencer model of 1882.
One of the first successful pump-shotguns. Sadly, I picked this one up with a shattered wrist. I pieced it back together as best I could, with wood glue, walnut sanding dust, and dye, and filled a void in the toe. It’s only a cosmetic fix, but I’m honestly not interested in shooting it anyway. I think it would require finding reloadable brass of the correct dimension and then hand-loading them with black powder. I’ve had it apart, and it’s very interesting mechanically, with a heavy pivoting breech block powered by a forged leaf spring that throws empties straight out the top. ![]() https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chri...Post-Civil_War https://www.historicalfirearms.info/...slide-or/embed
