I agree that the twins exist almost in a class of 1. But I still think we can say they are good looking cars despite no direct competition. The Miata, Audi TT, and maybe 370Z are similar in size/layout. But those are a convertible, a much more expensive car, and a slightly larger car. I get what you are saying about the 2nd gen BRZ. I think it will be received very well once people get to walk around them and see them driving in person. It’s similar with the new Supra. Pictures don’t do them justice, they look great in person. Car design is a wacky world. People will always hate certain designs, while others love it. Some designs that look “cool” now, look very dated later on. Certain brands always seem to figure out what will look good now, and will look good 20 years from now. Aston Martin does that better than anyone (IMO). I absolutely love everything they do. But those are a little out of my price range. Jaguar and Porsche always seem to create timeless designs also. Of the Japanese brands they have each made some incredible looking cars, but there are a lot of misses also. They also make a ton of different models so they all can’t be winners. Mazda seems to get it right more often than not. FD RX-7, enough said. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It is wacky, and what is fascinating is that Toyota, hopefully, is swinging back in a direction of pleasing designs. For me, the redesigned Mirari is sexy AF and I hope future models (Camry) adopt a similar design language.
Where has this Toyota been? Why did we ever get this... |

This is the rear bumper that was issued at the same patent office as the front:https://search.ipaustralia.gov.au/de...8-d13bcf6bedf1

I wonder how much a painted front bumper will cost for people like me who don't have a Toyota dealer near by and prefer the Subaru logo. I can't imagine there's anyone who prefers the Subaru bumper.

I have had cars with terrible headlights where the fog lights actually did help out with normal low-beam light pattern ('05 Mazda3). S2000 with Xenon headlights didn't come with fogs, no need for them. Ditto for my '17 BRZ PP with LED headlights. I'll turn them on in foggy conditions but honestly they don't do much if anything near as I can tell... Again they fill in a bit to the left and right immediately in front of the car but nothing I'd call useful. |

Probably the worst offender, styling wise among the Japanese in the last decade, is Toyota. They (and Honda at times) seem to have gone down a rabbit hole of making their designs as ugly as possible, loading them up with all the kinds of creases, cuts, angles, fake vents and fussy design that already makes them ugly on release, but will make them look very out of date in just 5 years. The 86 was one of the few cars spared this, fortunately. Whoever penned gen1 did a great job. |

The BRZ front has grown on me.
I need to see this GR86 in full. Certainly comparing the two patents the GR86 has what looks like about 15% more open grill to the engine, and slightly larger side flow too. Might be important for modders. |
