The Ferrari 250 GTO of motorcycles is for sale on BaT

1974 Ducati 750 SS. One of 401 ever made; not a clone. This one will be an interesting auction.

That was the entire point of the Paul Smart replica! Lol. In fact, the seller's bike is signed by Paul Smart himself, as well as Cook Neilson.

Although it's been years since I last saw this motorcycle I expect it's condition hasn't changed. (The photos do not do it justice.)
If you want a green frame and have the green backs then go this one and make others green with envy.

Do you mean this bike specifically? The one being auctioned? I can say without hesitation that it has only improved over the years as the owner continued with the small final details of the restoration. Which as we all know, never really is finished...lol. It is ULTRA clean, and rides like a dream. The gearbox is like butter. It previously had Imola cams in it from it's prior life as a race bike, but when the motor was rebuilt, standard SS cams were used and it makes for a beautifully tractable motor. The Lockheed upgrade is also 100% better than the Scarabs were, even when new.

Yes, the one being auctioned. I have been a Ducati fan for decades. The wife and I have attended many events, met many interesting and important people and have seen some very impressive motorcycle collections.
I probably have photos of the bike being auctioned at one rally or another. The first time I think was at Mid Ohio in 2005.
Here's a photo of the wife and I at the Indy GP in 2010 with then Ducati CEO Gabriele Del Torchio. He'd just made a deal with the wife for her 1987 Ducati Indiana that he's sitting on. It was to go to the Ducati museum but I think it ended up in his personal collection.

My back hurts just looking at the picture of this bike.

Believe it or not, it's not as bad as it looks. I was fully expecting 100% race bike commitment, but it's really not much different than my Aprilia Falco. The difficult part isn't even the right foot GP shift pattern....it's the LEFT foot rear braking...! lol

Mmmmm...not quite. lol One sold last year for ~$125K though, and this one is decidedly nicer. Plus racing provenance. Auctions are funny things though.. The owner has a healthy reserve on it though.

Well, the current owner has had it since 1980, so it hasn't been on an auction block since then. It WAS put on display a few times by Ducati North America at various shows though, including the NA debut of the 1000cc Paul Smart Replica. I believe it was also in some of their brochure material for the Replica too...

Those Indianas are like hen's teeth as well..!

As a motorcycle guy...
They may have only built 400 of them, but fairly pedestrian-looking and certainly not as exotic and wild as a 250 GTO was in its day!
MV Agusta 500-4 would be more of a 1974 2-wheeled GTO.

Don't forget that prior to this bike, Ducati's biggest bike was a 450cc single, and produced NO multi cylinder bikes at all. This might as well have been a space ship for anyone familiar with Ducati at the time. And the icing on the cake was that it consistently beat the MV 750 ridden by Agostini at the time, too.

Yeah, but they were the less exotic streetbike-based superbikes of the era, vs. the more exotic 500cc pure race machines.

Anyway, yeah, I'd take it for a ride
