STI Push Button Start

Japan Parts says that the WRX STI button will work for the BRZ. It's different in that It's red as opposed to the grey one that the BRZ is supposed to have, and it's already available but the BRZ one is still in development. Anyone have more definitive news on this? I'd really rather have a red one.

Most likely coming out with a red one for the future STi BRZ. Might even be interchangeable with our current BRZ assuming the trim doesn't change too much.

I have the red Sti button for the BRZ. It is not as simple as just swapping the button assembly because the male connector end of the button has 11 pins rather than the USDM 8 pin.

I am working on a remedy.

I test fitted the button in my BRZ and it looks amazing. I'm excited to get this done and share with everyone what I had to do to make it work.

I have the GR STI button in my 2008 hatch and I plan to swap it into the BRZ whenever the gods decree it time for mine to arrive. I was anticipating some problems as mentioned above but generally, those are easily remedied. You will notice that the button shown below features a status LED whereas the BRZ "specific" one referenced above does not. I suspect this is where your additional 3 pins come from as this LED changes states based on...the state of the vehicle.

Has this progressed any further? I probably cannot place this in my FRS but its interesting to see the work done on this! =)

I don't think the light on the button would work, therefore the pink button is a better option.

Yes! I got bored with the all star game tonight and decided to really investigate the wiring issue. Success...sort of!

Here's a Picture:

I have a temporary wiring solution (Simple test wires looped over the pin on one and and plugged into the female connector on the other) that allows me to start and stop the car, as well as starting the accessories with my foot off the brake. I also was able to wire it up for the status LED and STI logos to illuminate, however I could not get the lights in the button to power off even after the car is shut off and locked. In fear of draining my battery overnight, I have temporarily disabled this feature and will go at it again tomorrow.

I popped the passenger side center stack lower cover (below the knee pad) off. Then I reached in from behind and popped the USB connector out (push forward). The next step is to unplug the connection and push the wiring back through the exposed hole. After that reach into the now vacant USB hole with your pointer finger and pull gently. It may require some tugging a bit, but it will eventually pop out.

On another note, I worked a little more on this last night. I also confirmed via the STI part number on my switch that my switch is in fact the one for Impreza models. Japan parts sells the BRZ button, but you have to be sure to select the ZC6 before adding it to your card to have the right one.

Because I get mine elsewhere, I had to be a little creative to get mine to work. Eventually, I just decided to sauter some jumper to the pins on the button and connect them to the female connector. It works and looks great!

I am a little concerned that I cannot get the red LED illumination to go off when the car is shut off. I plugged my stock USDM button in and it did the same thing (stays on even with power off). Since an LED pulls low voltage, Im not too concerned about it. But can someone please confirm for me whether their stock button stays illuminated all the time?

Thanks!
