Nothing. It’s actually good marketing to bring a car together and cost effective. If you are a yoda fan you get an 86(FRS), if you are a subie fan you get the BRZ.

I am not a fan of anything. I just bought an FR-S since the price was better at Toyota dealer than Subaru dealer when I checked. I replaced almost everything that made that slight difference between BRZ and FR-S at the time anyway.

I think the valve recall made the biggest difference when more Toyota dealers failed servicing the engine than Subaru.

When you crunch the numbers that we have the Toyota failed more than the Subaru in almost direct proportion to how many of each were sold. Of course there were more FRS that failed since there were almost 3 times as may of them to start with.

I guess my point was that Subie fanboys may not have bought an FRS or 86. Plenty of former WRX owners who bought the BRZ. A bunch like me who own both. Not to say I would not have bought the 86, but being a subie guy I got the BRZ and the price difference was small new and AT.

If you are buying used the FRS is way cheaper than the BRZ.

My interpretations was that Toyota dealers were not experienced with Subaru engine. Still, I had my valves replaced at a Toyota dealer, although I paid for it, and it turned out to be an excellent job. Yeah, you can be right.

Sure, I just realized that none of my cars ever been the same brand. I guess I am a very bad fanboy of anything.

My car is serviced at a Toyota/Subaru service department but it's a Toyota car dealer.. Very rare breed!!

And I had to buy a BRZ as the car is manufactured in a Subaru factory and has a Subaru heart..

I will never understand the thought process that because they work for Toyota they don't understand boxer engines. It is a completely ludicrous thought that they are baffled by a different type. Hell, there are guys here that have never touched a wrench before in their life doing advanced mods so why would trained and experienced techs be confused?

If we apply that theory to the Subie techs then they should have been totally baffled as well since the FA20 is rather different in many aspects from the other engines. The method of changing the springs and sealing up afterward are radically different than the method used on the other affected engines. Sloppy workmanship is sloppy workmanship no matter what engines they are "used" to.

Having been asked several times if my BRZ tS is a "real one", I'm pretty sure the kid was asking if your BRZ was an actual tS or a tribute car.

Heh, yeah.
(Not that it really matters but*) I like the idea that all the badges under the hood and beneath the fenders match up with the FHI egg this baby Godzilla hatched from (-:

(*No offense to all my Scion and Toyota friends here, we’re all Twins (-: by bloodline.)

I wonder, does Toyota train their techs or are they trained by Subaru? Just a thought...

Nope, the kid is all about Subaru and doesn't like Toyota.
Also, I don't care for the "Collector Car" marketing term "tribute". Its their way of legitimizing a collection of mismatched parts so they can charge BIG $$$'s for something that shouldn't exist.
