Alright, so while we're talking about phones. Open question for those more knowledgeable than me on the topic: If you play music from your phone to a car's infotainment system via either USB or Bluetooth, which device controls the randomization of shuffle? I swear it seems as though different cars prefer different songs, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was just my false perception.

That plug in works with automate so I'll try it tonight, see what happens. I think I solved my Bluetooth problems too by clearing the cache on my Bluetooth apps

The phone should control audio track shuffling. The car doesn't do much except for communicating with the phone and passing on what the phone does through the car's infotainment system/speakers

It would depend on how the music is being played, since @ScoobsMcGee said he was using Bluetooth or USB.

If the headunit is using the phone as a storage device, accessing the files directly and playing them, then the headunit is managing the shuffle function. This is more likely with USB than Bluetooth.

In the end, the shuffle is being handled by the playing device (the one running the codec, converting the bits to notes, and producing the sound).

I know in mine, using the iPod controls in USB the iPod is the playing device the iPod then controls the actual shuffle, so the button on the head unit is just a toggle.

This may have been the first two times I've used the thank button in the proper context.

I guess I unintentionally loaded the question by saying both USB and Bluetooth. In my case, it's usually USB. Thinking about it in the sense of just storage media, I should probably buy some short USB drives and save audio files to folders to mimic playlists rather than plug in my phone.
