And if if the inspections go well it will be mine (ok my wife's ) before February.

Like every other job in the world there are good engineers and bad ones. Unfortunately the more brilliant they are the less social skills or common sense they seem to have. Sort of like teachers.
So, are you calling me stupid or socially inept?!?

3 write ups in a year is termination. Their department manager was canned the beginning of this month.

We fire 3 or 4 a month. The new guys start and immediately start missing work. We fire them. We keep about 20% a year that actually show up. There is also a very low unemployment rate in our area so there are very few even looking for work to start with.
It can be a management issue but that all depends on the whole picture so automatically pointing the finger is not accurate.

That is some of our issue. The ones that want to work are working already. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill entry level jobs.

Some of our issue was also their recently booted department manager. He missed as much work as they did and was extremely lax. This leeched into other departments as people would see him not doing shit, and be like, "why am I trying so hard then?"

Back in the day we would just yell "doughnuts!" at whoever was late until they brought some in for break time. Public ribbing and being shamed to spend their own money was pretty effective at quelling those issues. Now that is workplace harassment

11 tries later I have a 3D printed nut that fits. I may not be smart but I am persistent

This damn free CAD software is a pain to specify thread diameter and pitch with.

Fair enough. Ultimately the employees fault if they get fired for breaking rules they know about.

Unfortunately sometimes a "bad" employee sticks around because you need the capacity they bring and you can't easily find a better replacement.

Nice! What printer and software?

One of my first prints was an alternate spool holder that had a printed thread/nut. I didn't design the model myself but I quickly learned how important it was to calibrate the dimensional accuracy and extrusion rate of my printer for parts like this...
